I have been slowing my car down from 10.70s to run 11.50s for Index racing and Sportsman Eliminator , I have been using a Moroso bolt style throttle stop for about 10 years I have done well with it but am looking for something better. Last week I added a throttle controller so I can set my leave rpm for staging without looking at the tach , I really like it ! , but the air was really good this past weekend and I struggled with my bolt settings trying to slow the car down. I tried a Willys brand restrictor with the adjustable plates earlier in the year and my car didn`t respond well so i went back to my " bolt system" I am looking at a Marko plate system that uses individual plates to restrict flow, very similar to the E Z plate system that is no longer available. i am just wondering before putting out $600 if my cars response would be the same as the Willys. Anybody have any test results on both, or thoughts? Or an E Z plate system for a 4150 for sale?

Get it close with the bolt. Thenadd weight. Its pretty accurate. 5lb increments, I’ve even experimented with 2 1/2 lb.

IDK of any way to tell if a throttle position limiter changes mixture distribution except by results. Limited 2dary travel in QJ did back in the day.
Another way: retard the spark in high gear.

Contact Oldiron. He's a master with restrictor plates with a stick shift car, no less. He can dial it to a hundredth of a second. When I grow up I want to be as knowledgeable as he is. (although he is about ten years younger than me).

4 speed street legal. Best time 10.99 @ 124 mph on 93 octane pump gas @ 3926# total weight

I have used several ways to slow down and run an index in nostalgia classes. I have used the EZ plate system. I have tried a bolt type deal. Now I take a set amount of throttle out and do the rest with weight. My experience will be different than yours. I am doing this with a modman and 2 edelbrock carburetors. The restrictor plates did not follow the pattern for me. I think it has to do with the common plenum or the way/timing it was opening the air doors when changing to different plate sizes but who knows.( think vacuum secondary)
The best combination for me has been the take a chunk of throttle out and do the rest with weight.
I think in your case, if you want to use a restriction device, you would be better served with a plate system rather than the dial type like willys or et genie.
I also like the idea of the allstar performance type setup.
If I didnt have 2 carburetors and linkage to deal with, I would try them. They are a drop in tapered restrictor like the cup cars run. I think using those to get rid of a set amount and then use weight for the rest would be a good combination.

All i can add is ...... we have always used timing to slow Joes Duster down to 11.50 It has worked great except for when the air changes, then the car actually picks up.

Other than that...Your car looks so nice !!! i like it, especially with the new rims

....BAD A$$ STREET CAR.....

Thanx… after 30 years with Weld Draglites it was time for a change.. I have wanted the front Weld Magnums for a long time and got a good deal on the fronts from a friend , sold my Draglites and bought the rear Holeshot R3s to match. I can't believe how many compliments I have got on them its pretty cool!

Almost all of these racers are on index using weight. Foot brake, no starting line chip, no air shift.

I have used the EZ Plate and the dedenbear manual stop. Both worked well and will cost some MPH for sure. We use timing in the dragster to keep it above 7.50 or did when it was running 7.30's, have not tried to slow it down with the new engine yet but smaller carb and timing will be the first try.

I run an Indy 360-1 intake on my 408 we had to mill the intake down an inch so I could run the Willy s adjustable restrictor setup and I lost almost 2 1/2 mph after removing it I installed a HVH Super sucker and still was down 2 mph, I installed a regular 1 inch open spacer and got the mph back. My car runs very consistent 11.50s at 115 and 60 fts in the 1.60-1.64 range ( deep staging ) 1.50 - 1.54 shallow above average for 11.50 index class. But my mph is 2 to 3 mph slower than some in the class which is no big deal. My present " bolt system " has served me well and I am leaning towards just staying with it as I really don`t want to loose any more mph. I am looking at a Marko Performance plate system which is basically the same as the E Z plate system , perhaps a combination of it and my bolt stop will result in not loosing much mph. I thought about removing timing but don't want to jeopardize the hard launch. If I learned anything its that the Indy intake works well as is on my combo because modifications have resulted in lose of power and mph.
