It has been since 2005 that we had this many TS in the Gulf.
Zeta is going to hit us between 6:10 and 7 PM till about 9 PM.
We just are getting into it now with a few wild gusts Eye should be right over where I am.
New Generator ready and waiting with small 15 Gallon Barrels Of Fuel thanks to used mint VP Racing Gas barrels. Nice and convenient size to move and a hand pump so I can just fill er up if we lose power. Looks like Dad's home already lost power just 4 miles away since no one trims trees. Must be the same for you up north and the snow. And Idiots who did not pick up a thing so it will blow all over the place.
Back when Lee hit west of us lost the power for 7 days.
Sometime next year I will install NG on the Carb and use the unused gas up in the cars.
At least this time my wide is awake she slept through Katinra and thought I was joking it was so bad. Zeta should just be a Cat 2 though. But the few bands we got were bad already few broken tree brancheds and thought the Fireplace Cap and Metal Pipe was gone as heard a lound noise but something hit it. Squalls are funny like that now quiteand just misting. They say it will be mostly wind and not rain / water so have the shutters close and everything picked up.

No power here. I got the generator powering up everything so The Whole Home Is Up and Rolling On It! Yes It Is Connected With A Proper Transfer Switch
Cleaned up 400 plus feet of street curb to curb the home next to me on both sides and across from us. That way my little part looks normal like it did before but the rest of the Parish is a mess.
We cleaned the rear yard as well. Putting everything in bags or cans and it is waiting to be picked up.
We had too check dad's place and was lucky both neighbor's trees fell in their own Holmes, not dad's We had informed them that the trees we toast. In fact the one that fell on the house next to dads had part of it fall on dad's my fence 4 months ago so they had time to deal with it.
On the way there all of Kenner what we could see of Metairie was without power. They say 82,000.min in Jefferson are without. But retracted that to more
Did not think there's 82,000 in Jefferson Parish.
Lots of down power poles and trees, trees on houses as well as cars. It was dark like midnight at 5pm but does not get dark till 6:45 here. Some wild wind but was just a Cat 2 Katrina was way worse. My wife went to bed when Katrina passed slept right though it and did not believe me that it was bad real bad I had to show her personality fir her to believe me

Glad you are ok. You are a better man than me as I would have moved away from that state a long time ago. That area just seems to get hit there all the time and I`m not sure that is going to change anytime soon.

I wonder with this historically busy hurricane season, the storms might actually more tame overall then a less busy season, in that the constant storms keep the ocean temps more moderated by the constant ocean churning upwelling a hurricane provides. In that I think say 3 Cat 2-3 hurricanes are more tolerable then one Cat 5?

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

The last time we had a season like this with this many TS it was 2005 {Karina was August 29th 2005} Also with 3 hurricanes hitting Louisiana in one season it is now a record year just for that!
After my last post I inspected my roof and have damages to every section.
As far as strength a Cat-5 Is killer a real monster the biggest deal is how wide they are. Katrina was a Cat-5 but was also very large in mass so did damages with rain and flooding on Texas Coast, Louisiana, Mississippi Coast as well as Alabama.
A slow moving 2 or 3 is bad for rain and water flood from pushing water inwards inshore once it gets onshore. The prolonged slow path is very destructive.

You want any storm of any strength to move fast as the rain builds fast. That is why way up into the country after it has slowed down to not even a Cat-1 it floods so much
[b] Since my last post of being OK I have inspected my roof and have damges to all sections not bad but every section has some. We did have sustained winds for quite some time

Bummer Pinkster... what kind of winds did you see ? Sustained and gusts ? .., total rain in each instance ?

We got hit here HARD with rain during Harvey .... almost 21 inches in less than 6 hours !

All good valid points, last major Fla hurricane was Andrew 1992, which did a lot of damage in most peoples mind, BUT, was fast moving, rather dry, rather small, followed a very predictable path, struck a least populated area, at the best opportune time of day and week, all factors, many forget.

Enough to be missing roof on every section. With downed trees but not for me just 6-8 palm tree branches that is why we choose them. Along with lots of clean up
Had to cut up trees from neighbors fix a shed for one that was just minor and replace his missing ridge caps but his roof is fine.To help him out as he just had hod heart attack him a few weeks back. I think they said it was 95-100 but we had some gust when bands hit is hard like I said the chimney sounded like you were beating on it with a hammer. After looking around trees on holmes, Power poles broke in half or pushed down and lots and lots of roof damages as well as fences just gone. The house next to us no longer has a fence at all. I build mine extra strong with heavy very heavy commercial pipes in lots of cement and the rest are in a retaining wall that has a large footer that is belled at the base with lots of steel inside. The gates are also over built same way.
The shutters are Cat-5 rated {Dade County approved} Garage door is 2 sided metal with insulation inside and rated for high wind
