I have a used but like new clutch. It is a 10.5" 23 spline. Borg & Beck stamp on housing along with the word Model. But no other identifying information. It has 12 springs, 3 rollers and is gold plated/painted. How do you know any specs? Is this real B&B, or some ones remake/rebuild? Seems like some other manufactures use the terminology B&B style, and others state B&B like Hayes? Is this a case were it is made under license? Thanks,

Borg and Beck pressure plates have three heavy duty fingers that the throw out bearing rides on. A diaphram pressure plate has 18 fingers that are much lighter duty...

Actually they were the OEM manufacture in the day not just a style. This is the 3 finger and I understand the difference versus diaphragm style.

I have seen original B&B, and B&B with model numbers and B&B with reman. sticker on them. This one does have the same stamped B&B and "Model" stamped on the housing, but no patent info like originals, or Model number like others I have seen.

I was hoping for more specific info on the clutch. I would have thought it would have a manufacture name and or model # stamp. Is Hayes Licensed to use B&B name?

The Scalloped 70-71 11" came in 3 versions, 383, 440, hemi. Service manual tells the difference. The 10.5 was for the 340. Was wondering if there was some standardization on clutch to know the design spec and intent for this clutch. Who used gold paint/coating on disc hub and yellow treatment on housing?

Pictures would help a lot. I ALWAYS used Hays, and had a friend rebuild my last Hays unit as he worked for a clutch manufacturer. I have used Zoom, which is purple, Hays is red. I had a yellow Schiefer unit. Gold does not sound familiar. B&B is in the public domain now, anyone can use it...

Three "styles" of pressure plates. Diaphram, Borg and Beck and Long.

Yellow pressure plates were manufactured by Schieffer. Orange were Hays and Purple were Zoom. Someone made a gold one in their "race" line.

What's the point, you want to sell this thing ?

So if I understand you correctly, you are asking:

1) is there any way to identify the manufacturer of the pressure plate
2) is there any way to identify the clamp pressure of the pressure plate

Is that about it?

Wife says too many cars, liquidation coming soon......

Yes, identify clutch parameter, but also try to learn about the significant differences. I am looking to use it on a hemi motor build. So I am studying Flywheels and clutches. I understand FW differences in diameter and bolt pattern etc...

In looking at the service manual for 70-71 only the 318 and 340 got a 10.5" pressure plate with 11 5/8" bolt pattern. 318 9 springs, 340 12 springs. But both got 6 rollers. Disc was the same for both. with 10 springs 5 +5

The 383/440/Hemi got the 11" Scalloped clutch. The 383 same 12 springs as the 340 and 6 rollers.
The hemi got 12 springs but only 3 rollers. The 440 same hemi springs, but 6 rollers. Both used the same disc with 5 plain springs. What is interesting is they got a disc with less surface area then the 383. 11" OD, but the ID was 6 1/2" for 383, but 7" for hemi/440

I know that Mopar used the 10.5" clutch for the super stock cars. Plus plenty of the clutch manufactures make both for the hemi. 10.5 or 10.95.

So here I have clutch with no model identification, 12 springs, 3 rollers, 10.5" plate, 11 5/8" bolt pattern, and 23 spline disc at 10.5" with 5+5 springs.

I realize if a patent has run out the design can be used by others, but Borg and Beck seems to still be an active company so I assume if the housing has that stamped in it, it is made by them, or under license?
Here are pictures. Thanks for the help

That looks just like a couple of pressure plates I got straight from Mopar Performance in the 80's. Here is one that is on eBay right now...

Hays show this color scheme on their main web, and there is one on ebay, but when go to the details they are a different color. The gold one on ebay is an 11", and while the housing is the same it does not have Bork and Beck on it. So maybe this is a MP clutch from the day. If I could only find out more specs on it, since it does not have any of the service manual specs. The whole 3 roller thing makes it seem like a 10.5" high performance clutch, can't be hemi though because of the 23 sp disc.

Finally found some info after a few day of Internet browsing. An old Hays Catalog from 2008 show the gold series as their Street Strip Heavy duty model. 30-012 is the 10.5" pressure plate with 2750 clamp pressure and 3 rollers for additional 850lb at 6000 rpm clamp force. Good up to 7000rpm
The disc is the 40-104. 1"-23spline.

Found a lot of additional information on the OEM BB models for Mopar. Have a few apart on the bench. I think 2 are original 10.5 hemi super stock because of some unique additions the hemi clutches got. Will post when I get a chance.
