To anyone in the know ....is there a cut-off for the years allowed in this class? 144 mph is mind boggling hell my car has been a bests of 142 and that's with aluminum heads and a Dominator.

That’s got to be close to 800hp through stock intake, carbs and manifolds . How is that even possible? Are they still limited in the “sound” or can they go nuts on cams ? Would love to see one of these events.

That's what we were talking about at work this morning. I get ported heads, big compression and big cubes but it all has to suck through the tiny straw of an intake and carbs!

I know, must be some serious modifications to the intake and exhaust manifolds

Seems like I recall on one of his old motors they cut open the intake, milled out a bunch of material, did a lot of welding, and basically made it a big single plane?

And it has to exhaust through a two and a half inch exhaust system with exits in the stock locations, through mufflers that sound stock at idle.

I am guessing that is more than 900 probably close to 1000HP and probably not much over 500 inches - There is no limit on cams or engine size. What is done to those cars is unbelievable every thing is thought out - every ounce is removed that can be - The engines are extremely trick and they are not afraid to turn some RPM with them

Actually, there is a 560 cubic inch limit on everything except Ford 385 series Lima motors can go to 620. Camshaft must produce a correct stock sound at idle.

I was standing around the 1000' mark when Dave ran the 144 mph pass. My 5.7 Challenger is louder at WOT through the stock pipes than the 'Cuda. Very impressive to watch that car go down the track each time.

I’d be curious to know what the cam specs might look like in an engine like that.

I have a feeling that the cam specs only tell you a small part of the story. I'm not up to date on FAST engine builds but the little bit I played around with this stuff years ago taught me that the relationship between overlap and low lift flow was really important. My guess is that the heads have been modified to reduce low lift flow which would then allow more overlap to be used. That was the trend a few years past, not sure if they are still on that track or if they have gone a different route. I think it gets extra tricky with Hemi heads. These guys are making NHRA super stock type of power levels but with a lot more restrictions. Of course, they do have more inches and more compression but no headers and no billet cross ram intakes. Very impressive. Can't even comprehend the amount of work that goes into something like that.

Be funny to watch one of these cars pull into the NHRA stock lanes sometimes. They look a lot more stock than any of the NHRA stockers.

These cars make you second guess the need for lightweight aluminum wheels, Rear wheel tubs with huge sticky tires, gutted interiors, and many other race car parts that people think are must haves. People who have not heard of this type of racing think your crazy when you tell them how fast they go on such narrow tires.
