Have been running an out of the box set of 440-1 heads on a 13 to 1 compression 440 for the last 4 years and the combination is maxed out. Was thinking about sending them back to INDY for their 325-CNC porting and a good valve job.Is that a good plan or should I look at other options?

Call Bob at Modern cylinder heads at 568-468-7914 and talk to him about doing the CNC porting on those 440-1 heads like he does for a lot of the big name Mopar engine builders, maybe even for Indy before they got sold to the new owners.
I've had them do, CNC port and valve job afterwards, several sets of heads including Brodix B1-BS , Eddy RPM ,Indy SR and Indy 440-1 with good results up
Ask him about changing the intake valves to the 2.250 also at the same time up

Talk it over with Dwayne at Porter Racing Heads. I'm not so sure that you can send them to Indy for the CNC porting since the castings might have changed over time. Dwayne would know the scoop on that. Dwayne can port them for you and/or provide you with some options.

I am a poor country boy, and I can not afford CNC porting, but I do have a Harbor Freight die grinder, BUT one question I have asked and very few reply to is, WHO did the porting your CNC operations is duplicating? I have a homemade flow bench, and I can hand port most sets close to the CFM of a CNC head, but my heads have more velocity and seem to make a littler more power on the track and dyno. CNC stuff looks real pretty, but just to start a thread, how many people who are selling programs, tell who did the original work that is being copied?

Talk to Todd @ Marsh Motorsport. He had Larry port mine to 390@800, thats way better than any CNC program I've seen.

Mine are a 10+ years old. Hand ported by the late Jeff Kobylski at Modern Cylinder Head before they had CNC. Car has been 150@3350#. They work pretty good.

Why not Dwayne Porter? He'd get my vote. Even though they'd be hand ported.

My Vote is Dwayne also. I had my SR's done by Modern prior to working with Dwayne. They worked good but cracked underneath the intake springs . Not their issue. I had machined the spring pockets lower to get correct installed height. Their program was for a set of heads that had not been touched. Dwayne will continue to get my stuff until he decides to fire me as a customer!!!! LOL.

Thanx 451 Guy

Dwayne’s head work is second to none. Big blockheads are his bread and butter.

Bob at Modern doesn’t answer the phone or return messages must not need the average Joes money

Larry Smith out of North Carolina really is the go to guy. Just ask Sasquatch on the board.
Good turn around time and his flow numbers of 440-1s are great.

YES that is an issue there some times.... However this is the only place that i have experience with. But i dealt with Scott Brown, not Modern direct.

Has anyone use KG Engines in Ohio for their CNC programs? I talked to the owner Dave at Monster Mopar Weekend a few years ago and he said he does a lot of Mopar heads and he has a program for the 440-1heads.
