I have a 1984 Shelby Charger, that I bought new.

I would like to get rid of the computer and feedback carb. I have already modified a v8 dist. to fit the engine. I could run a single point ign. fairly easy.

What I don't know is if a Mopar electronic box will fire a four cyl engine. I will wire the cap with every other terminal being used.

The reason I want to do this is I have been having somekind of electrical gremlin at work. The engine will run fine for about ten minutes and then it shuts off.

I have tried replacing just about everything on the engine to no avail.

I will also be replacing the carb with a Holley 350 two barrel.

Thanks guys

The symptom you describe sounds like the pick up
in the dist.... quite common... after it heats up
it goes open

The pick-up has been replaced. Also all the sensors have also been replaced. The computer has been removed and sent to Standard ign.to be tested..It passed, I also substituted another 84 computer no change.

I used to race this car in stock class when it was fairly new.

If you remove every other point on the reluctor to match the cap then it will not pulse the coil for the missing wire. Why don't you just update to a later model fuel injection harness , intake with injectors? They made a MPI without the turbo or use a TBI setup. I think you would be going backward with that setup

I agree, grind off every other point on the reluctor corresponding to your unused terminals on the distributor. It will work just fine. The ECU didn't care whether it was installed on a 440 or a slant 6, so it will work just fine on your 2.2. FWIW, the 2.2 guys have adapted a MSD Volkswagen distributor to fit the 2.2. Keeps it all inside the dist and doesn't require you to go through the effort of converting.
