I think they modeled them after transformer toys. Maybe they are trying to appeal to the young guys that played with those toys years ago and are now old enough to be in the market for a truck. That's not a terrible theory.

That's not a terrible theory. Probably not far from the truth....I’m sure most current automotive stylists/designers would fall into that demographic as well. My young (mid 30s) business partner has said that most new cars & trucks look like bad Japanese anime to her.
