My daughter's 2006 Mustang has been a decent first car for her, but recently the timing chain guides went out as it sounds like these engines are known for. I think the jackshaft and cam sprocket fasteners are torque to yield and the Ford dealer wanted $79 for one stinking bolt. Can these be reused or does anyone have a source that would be cheaper than the dealer? I can't seem to find them new online anywhere.

They stretch - can't reuse them.

Amazon has them for a lot less, put the Ford part numbers in the search there.

You realize that Ford, in their infinite wisdom, but one timing set on the back of the engine necessitating the removal of the engine or the trans to do the job, they claim you can separate the two to get enough room, didn;t work for me.. BTDT with my daughter's Exploder. You really need the proper tools to time the engine as they aren't keyed and misalignment is probable without the timing tools. You can get those on Amazon too.

You might want to check Pep Boys or Auto Zone to see if the special alignment tools are part fo their tool-loan program.

Torque to yield bolts are not supposed to be re-used. But we have done it countless times. Especially on head gaskets. Someone who has experience torquing bolts can usually feel if the bolt holds torque as it is put through it's last twist.

Reusing TTY bolts invites two issues. Insufficient clamping force and fastener failure....or both

Some torque to yield bolts can be reused according to the manufacturer. If Ford says to replace them, then replace them, if not then reuse them if they aren't deformed.
