So, I (wife and I) upgraded from a 2012 Challenger SXT Plus, to a 2020 Scat Pack wide body. I expected my insurance to increase substantially...

Strange that it actually dropped a modest amount. Roughly paying $400 per year. on the Scat. Paid around 55K on the car.

Funny, our 2010 Buick LaCrosse CSX and 2012 Honda CRV are at about $480 per year each.

Same coverages... 250K//500K, $500 deductibles. Uninsured/Under insured coverage as well.

On the other hand, I know we are going to get hammered on property tax going forward because of the Scat..

Still, I was surprised. I'm retired, so the Buick and Scat are listed as "pleasure cars." Only the CRV is a commute driver for the wifey.

The Scat Pack is still a Challenger body and it has been around for several years pretty much unchanged, I would assume the parts are readily available and are cheaper then something that gets revised every few years. Gene

My ‘09 Challenger R/T classic I bought new has always had very reasonable insurance. I have it listed as pleasure use as its rates are less than the compact cars I have had insured as my daily driver. Was the sxt insured pleasure use only?
My insurance on the Challenger is even more economical since I suspend the insurance except comprehensive December through March.

That's interesting. Last year I was inquiring on my insurance company's rates for the new Challenger R/T's and Charger R/T's.
I spoke with my underwriter and told them that I needed to find out what the rates were for the Challenger R/T and the Charger R/T. I mentioned that the cars were not Scat Paks or Hellcats.
The lady mentioned that the rates don't differentiate whether the car is an R/T, Scat Pak or Hellcat. They are like the same rate. Was surprised that there is no difference in premiums between those three levels.

On the other hand, when the Demon came out I heard a number of people saying the insurance rates being quoted for them was astronomical, over $3000 a year for a middle aged guy with a good driving record was the number I recall hearing quoted.

Even as a daily driver they use to be cheaper than a honda civic back when those were the #1 stolen vehicle. Not the case anymore as the chargers and challengers are now up there in the stolen cars list. I assume the 392 is cheaper than your V6 because there are less of them.

For a middle aged or older guy who was likely to run out of talent long before the Demon ran out of performance.

Yes, 2012 SXT Plus Sport only had 17k garaged miles. A true peach for a SXT.

Paid 27k new, out of state wholesaler paid 17k cash. Even flew an employee
from Dallas to St. Louis to drive it back. Even met me a my bank.

They really wanted that car! up

Who are you insuring them with...?

Our '18 392 Daytona listed just over $51k and it's costing us $1000/yr, listed as pleasure. 2 1/2yrs only 9k miles
My Challenger is around $600 12k miles & 10yrs old now.(sat for yrs when I was sick)
Coverage is about the same as you, although stacked. (5 cars)
By comparison our 2019 $43k Buick is under 500/yr & the only car listed for the wife's commute.
It seems no one likes mopars... when I ask, they blame # of claims, theft & cost to fix.

I'm ready to jump to another company... Nationwide was even higher when I had them.
Have Met Life now, it cost less bundled with the house than Nationwide, which was higher on both cars & house.

Met Life's claim service is horrendous. I have them because they were several hundred $$ cheaper on home/auto, but I would never recommend them to anyone unless that person had significant claims/policy knowledge and experience. For me, the savings is worth the hassle, but I imagine that for most people, it would not be.

But apparently not cheaper than whatever company Cometstorm is using... but he hasn't responded yet.

Nationwide was really good with claims... But got expensive & screwed me when my agent retired (Threw me into the 1-800 pool)... told me if I wanted a personal agent... go find one. I had 1 house claim, 1 boat claim & several car claims over the years for hail & of all things... black walnut damage.

Have not needed file any with Met Life yet... Tried it since it had a work discount deal... but recently found out the discount is puny. So willing to give another company a go... any company. But will probably wait until after the garage is built, and then look to move it all.

The Hartford (AARP sponsored) is who we’ve had for years, home and autos.

Maybe multiple reasons we get a break? Age, no accident or ticket history, zip code, FICO score, very low mileage, time with the company, etc.

I recently explored Liberty Mutual. Their coverage and cost was about equal. Our house coverage would have been $400 less, but earthquake deductible would have went from 10% to 20%.

Decided to stay with The Hartford. Lazy I guess... shruggy

Then again the few times we’ve had claims (hail) they’ve been nicely responsive.

Well I have the no accident, no tickets, low miles & perfect fico covered... I can always join AARP
Not sure how rural PA zip code stacks up against MO

Earthquake coverage is interesting... we have them in PA but very small, mostly scale a 1-2... The state had one 5.2, and a 4.6 back in 1994, that's center was less than a mile from were I lived at the time. I slept through it laugh2 But it did open up a number of sink holes in the area. A friend's Dad lost a shed into one of the holes.

Soon as the garage is built and wife's pool goes in, I'll have to give Hartford a call & see what they have to say.

Big data has taught insurers who isn't getting into accidents and some insurance companies will quote you so cheap you'll think you're ripping THEM off. When I sold cars I mentioned Desjardines to a guy that just bought a smart car for his 2 kids to drive to college. When he came back for delivery he was praising me for telling him, the savings he got for switching all their cars over made the car free essentially.
