Had a guy do a buy now and pay.

Then I get a request to cancel order.

I asked why?

He said he dropped his phone and had hit the buy now.

But he had to go through the checkout process to pay me? Right, the buy now button dont make the payment.

I dont normally do any type of refunds and it almost looks like he changed his mind because how does one drop phone and do buy now and do the ebay checkout in error?

Im asking because ive never had this happen.

Thanks.

Wouldn't have thought of that, but sounds very feasible. If you let him off the hook do you simply cancel his transaction, or repay him from your account? If it's the latter, I'd seek help from a trusted source (not me).

Don't hesitate contact Ebay, make sure to keep any Email/responses to/from the party in question.... supply any Email/texts/responses/etc received outside of the Ebay platform if any....

Thanks!,

I did cancel it as it was all done via one click through ebay, the refund and relist I did save the back and forth messages through ebay.

I dont buy the excuse but say I was to send it off tomorrow, buyer gets angry breaks it and says it arrived broke? Then im double screwed.

Looking at the ebay fourms its sorta a no win either way, so all seems ok and I blocked him as a bidder.

I dont sell much but have a perfect record in every section and each time ive had some bs buyer or attempted buyer one call and ebay jumped to fix it.

Thanks for the input!

I've had a few of those issues thru the years. Someone does a buy it now, pays, and right before I ship it they request a cancel for one reason or another. I've always just cancelled it and blocked the bidder. One time I sold an rifle scope box, just the box, ad clearly stated that it was just the box. Bidder bought and paid for it, than must read the ad and said he no longer wanted a empty box, Than why did you buy it? I've learnt thru selling stuff online thru fb, ebay, etc, ALOT of people don't read ads in full. Anytime a bidder asks to request to cancel, I just cancel. Unfortunately with ebay if the buyer gets an item and they don't want it, or it isn't up to their specs, etc they can file a claim and you as a seller would have to refund, so not only are you out of the cost of shipping, but no you no longer have the item. One time I did sell a tail light, shipped it, about a month later buyer ask for a refund because their kid supposely bought it. They filed a claim, I nicely stated they bought the item I shipped it and than a month later they request a refund? Their request for a refund was declined by ebay thankfully.

You did the right thing, just cancel it and forget about it. It will relist and someone else will buy it that really wants it.

My BiN is linked to a credit card and instantly goes through. However, I do have I think 30 minutes to review or cancel it.

I agree with the others who stated just cancel it and block buyer. You're better off that way, because other wise people like this might leave you undeserved bad feedback and it's not worth it. If it's priced right you'll still sell it to someone else. I've given parts away when I discovered a slight problem with something after someone purchased something, and I was boxing. Very MINOR cosmetic issue, but I'm always wanting to error on the side of customer service and receiving good feedback.

Facts are stubborn things.

Pit Falls of ebay these days. Only way to recover your seller fees is give 100% refund. BUT, if he paid via PayPal, you LOSE all those PP fees.

Welcome to E-Bay... cool
Today there are many scammers and when a claim is made, E-Bay typically takes the side of the buyer leaving the seller holding the bag.
I have been on E-Bay for >20 years as a buyer and seller with tons of positive feedback... But rarely use E-Bay anymore..

Just my $0.02... wink
