I'm going to be mounting a Utiline long box on a '72 W200 next spring and am trying to get everything I need. I screwed up and didn't measure the wooden spacer blocks that go under the two front box mount bolts and the two rear crossmember bolts. Does anyone have the thickness of the spacers and what they're made of. Yeah, I know they're wood but what kind I'm pretty sure that the spacers for the middle two box bolts are 1" thick rubber but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Everybody and their dog has the bed wood but so far I haven't found anyone with the spacers.

See if this helps, these are pics of the wooden blocks on my 74 long bed step side, there are no wooden blocks at the front of the bed, there are 8 total, 2 each, four total in front of and behind the rear end above the arch of the frame. There are four total at the rear of the bed, 2 per side...see pics, hope this helps

Wow, great info!! For some reason that seems different from what I remember (still kicking myself for not measuring the blocks before I delivered the short box). I've attached a sketch of what I remember about the block mounting arrangement. I can see that you got both the blocks on the rear that fit in that 'U' channel. The rest I am confused about. I have also attached a blow up of the box I delivered showing the wooden block on the front of the box. I would appreciate it if you would look at these and comment. Again, thanks for crawling under your truck on a Sunday.

Maybe a short bed is different than a long bed but I have no rubber pads or wood blocks on the front...see pics, this is what I have for front mounts

Now I am confused. Your picture of the front box mount is different from either the short box I had, or the long box that I now have. On both of those the boxes the mounting was like my sketch, six carriage bolts inserted from the top, two at the front, two in the middle at about the high part of the frame, and two at the rear, each with those offset washers that the head fits into. What your picture shows is a hex bolt from the bottom into one of the box members. I'm not sure what to think. I looked in the parts book and can't find any listing for any spacers. Maybe this is just another example of Dodge capriciousness. I recall talking to the utilities manager in Laramie, WY around 1972 about the Dodge garbage trucks they had, all the same year and model. No two of them were identical, they all had something different. Needless to say he was not impressed. Thanks for the help, I sure appreciate it.

that looks different then the later 70s setup or at least what short boxes had. Good thing someone else chimed in or my answer wouldn't have made any sense at all! I just went up and took some photos of my long box. I think you are spot on. My box is from a 1968 and is the original box. Here are some photos I took of the mounting locations and they are really different from RapidusMaximus' pictures. Just some explanations: The orange paint marks are where the six bed attachment bolts go. The front mounts seem to be small "U" channels bolted to the side of the front crossmember. It does look like the right one has lost its lower lip. The center bolts go through a crossmember (the crossmembers appearing to be square tubing as opposed to the reinforcements that look like a open "U" channel). Unless someone has a 1968 long box Utiline, I think I am going to take RapidusMaximus's dimensions for the rear blocks, assume there is nothing other than maybe a thin anti-sqeak pad for the center bolts, and just make the front spacers thick enough to get a level box using the rear and center as a reference. If anyone else has an idea, as O-Ren Ishii put it, now's the time! Thanks to both of you for responding.

Oh Oh i need some sides (rusted) I’m all eyes and ears too since mine are gone too. Sixpac, where are you finding info for parts and pieces? For the Dodges there appears to be barely anything out there. There are people falling all over themselves selling wood bed kits and the wood spacers for the steps, but when it comes to sheet metal or the box spacers this is what I've found. 1) no steel fenders just fiberglass 2) no box sides at all in any material 3) there are reproduction tailgates and front panels but I have been told by two people who bought tailgates that the gauge is much thinner than the original 4) no wood spacers other than the ones I've mentioned In fact that is the way I got my long box, the guy who had it was going to shorten the sides down to fit a '75 short box with totally rusted sides. I was able to get a complete short box and trade him for his long box. But it's slim pickens out there. Wish I could be of more help. Just had a thought, this gentleman posted on Moparts offering sheet metal fabrication services. Joe Phillips joephillipsrestoration(at)gmail.com You may want to give him a call. He needs an original to use as a pattern but who knows, may be an option.
