Trying to figure out how to disassemble the P/B bracket/pivot assembly on a 1971 Hemi GTX.
The parts book shows all the pieces independent of each other so that should mean you have to assemble it in the field but I cannot get the large pivot pin with the square head to break free, shown on the far left in the image below.
I even tried to press it out and stopped before I screwed it up. Used heat too. Next is to soak it in PB blaster and see if that frees things up.
Am I missing something ?

That pivot shaft is notorious for seizing up. You should be able to get the side bracket on the side opposite from the square head off with little trouble. The problem is the shaft seizing on the center sleeve. Heat, penetrating oil, and patience can work most of the time but I've talked to people that had to drill it out.

Does center link pivot on the pin? Did some one spot weld the square end to the bracket? That’s part of my concern - the pin is seized and there is limited travel for the pedal link and booster/master cylinder pushrod end. I’m going to soak it and do other stuff, hopefully I don’t have to drill it out but will if I have to.

I recently did 2 66ish assemblies. The center pin was stuck, not the square pin, though it was stiff. I had to press both out. You will see the spot weld if used. Used smallest diameter fitting the pin would pass through against the bracket. Pressed out. Once it popped it came out on low pressure. The center pin is free, the sqaure head pin is seized in the two moveable pivot brackets. Hope that makes sense.

I haven't done a lot of these and maybe I'm just lucky but the lower shaft that goes through the side brackets (the square headed shaft) has always been the frozen one.

Not even thinking of budging. Hit it with heat while it was in the press, nothing yet. Going to wait until I get the booster back and if it’s still stuck it gets the grinder.

Going to wait until I get the booster back and if it’s still stuck it gets the grinder. Don't be afraid to put some heat to it. When I worked on the rear suspension of my '98 Neon, the control arm bolts were frozen in the knuckles. Took a LOT of heat while I was pressing them but they did come out.

Have you tried heating it to red hot and then quenching it in cold water? That’s my solution for really tough rust.
