One of the license plate bulbs in my 2014 Jeep Patriot burned out and the book shows a W5W as the replacement. It looks pretty much the same as a 194 or 168. Can I use one of them instead? If yes it saves me a trip to the parts store.

W5W means it is a 5 watt bulb. The 168 is a 4.9 watt light bulb, the 194 is a 3.7 watt.
So YES a 168 bulb is a direct replacement..
