Considering different heads (got Stage 6s now) for my 440 and am wondering what sort of results people have had with them. Anybody?

Here's a detailed post I did on Gbob's engine. Based on a 440, just that it was a MP block.

They have really good flow numbers out of the box. I had a set of Victor MW heads that I sent to Dwayne for flowbench evaluation. The Victor heads do require special rocker arms and the relocated exhaust ports can be an issue.

My 2" hooker super comps bolted up ok to the MW victors. They are tight to the t bar on the pass side, and contact the frame rail there as well, but that's due more to the fitment of the supercomps than the port location. They had to be "clearanced" to fit with the eddy rpm's that were on there before the victors.
Was was even able to bolt up the exhaust system, so the collector location didn't change much with the new heads, maybe a 1/4' or so.

I have a set of standard port Victors on my 440 that I have run for 2 years with good results. They are out of the first run of heads that Edelbrock did.

All I can say is that I bought a set from Muscle Motors when they first came out, then got tired of there being no good choice of affordable rockers. I ended up selling them to another shop who said they wanted a set to use for developing their own CNC porting program.

Did anybody ever figure out what the intake rocker offset really needs to be for a Victor head? From what I recall when mocking up different rockers, it looked like it was going to take .650-.700".

TD's are .650 offset. The heads need considerable clearancing with them or any rocker setup for that matter!

Mopar and Crane ended up going with .565 offset on P5153899 and 3900 (retail $636 for either pn).

I have a set of 3900s, and also a set of the Hughes 1.5s ($595 retail) and Hughes states they're using .600 offset.

If I ever get around to using the heads or any of the other paraphenalia I'll let you know how it works out....but as Brian states, I'd expect to check and correct the pushrod clearance in every case.

For now I haven't come close enough to seeing the potential of unported rpm heads, let alone Victors....but it's fun to look at all the pretty parts sitting on the shelf I guess

I had a set of Victor MW heads in my shop most of last year and I mocked up various rocker arm configurations on them. The MW version heads are a slightly different casting than the standard port heads and they require a little more offset. From what I could tell, a .650 offset intake would work on a RB motor with a 3/8 pushrod but it was tight. An offset intake lifter helped the situation.

I mocked up a Jesel rocker arm and the Jesel setup wanted more offset, something in the range of .700 or even .750 looked good. I didn't think the HS rocker arms were all that great of a fit on the Victor heads. The T&D setup looks really nice in pictures but I never had a set in my hands. If I was building a motor with Victor heads I'd probably go with the T&D or maybe I'd check out what Hughes has.

In the end I decided not to build up that set of heads since I had other projects in the works so I sold them.

Maybe the offset would be correct but I think the standard Mopar rocker arms are actually a little too long for the Victor head. The Victor head is taller than a production head so the pushrods and valves are both longer. Since those two items are at an angle to each other as they get longer the distance between them gets shorter.

Thanks for the info Andy, I thought that the 440-1 and the victors would be the same height.

I did some searching on old posts and found some other good Victor stuff you posted, too. Thanks.

I am going to try some Victors this year.
I'll post some results in a couple weeks.
Here's a pic with Hughes rockers .600 offset.
The heads needed a fair amount of pushrod clearancing.
.750 offset rockers would really make a lot of pushrod angle.
My next set of roller lifters will be offset!

the fit is great, after alot of grinding.
after porting the intake flow was 348cfm at .650 lift

How much higher would a 440 need to rev, to get the most out of the victors, compared to a larger engine.
