I am planning on stabbing my faceplated aluminum 18 splne 4 speed in the 68 GTS and need to convert it over to an a body case. I know i need a tail shaft housing and a mainshaft to start with. Is there anything else i am forgetting? Also, does the 23 spline trans use the same main shaft as an 18 spline. My faded memory sats no lol.
I should have bought the one for sale a few months ago and am kicking myself. Hate to pull apart a fresh trans but it needs to happen.
Thanks for any advice.

You are correct, the main shaft and the tail housing are the only difference. I agree with 440, the 23 spline and 18 spine transmissions use the same mainshafts. Now about that switching over from a classy B body to a lowly A body issue....

Thanks guys! That is great news.
I have all of this stuff left over from my red 66 Charger that we converted to a G Force gf5r 5-speed. My other 66 charger has a Lenco 4 speed so we are good on the three pedal b bodies. : D This 68 GTS is just my winter beater and I thought it would be wise to remove the original engine before something happened to it.. I have a 500hp 451 that shiuld make 350rwhp through the manifolds and full resto exhaust system. It should dip into the 12's on street radials.

All the A body 4 speed cars came with the A body 4 speed for reasons not reveal to us lowly buyers and owners The driveshafts are longer also for the 4 speed cars. Jeramiah, don't count on small radials hooking well on a nose heavy 4 speed car, me thinks a good set of bias ply street and strip tires will be better on hooking, especially at the track and on airports

If a 727 fits an A body why won't the 833? Granted shifter location may be different but it cant be that much different that a shift handle couldn't make up the difference. Am I missing something? Doug IIRC, it can be done, but it takes some hacking around on the crossmember area because that is where the shifter ends up.
