Fresh rebuild?.
They can be tight, but that seems excessive.
Trans. car details?
New problem or 1st you noticed?
Seized rear support....?

My experience when it's been something like that is either the drums aren't aligned and seated properly in the sun bell, or a sprag issue. You didn't say if you've been running it this way or not. Usually when it's screwed up like that, you get 3rd gear and reverse.

My car is also very difficult to push and if it is in the air the tires are hard to rotate. But the transmission pan is clean and it drives fine down the road. All gears work like they should. I think there is just a lot of friction inside a fresh 727.

Something is amiss, I fear scope
All the good race 727 I've owned and race would push backwards harder than forward but none of them did what your talking labout work
It is talking to you, now is the time to find out what it is causing that twocents

It's normal for the car to push harder backward than forward but hard to push in both directions points to tight clutch/band clearances. This won't noticeably effect the operation of the trans.

Have you tried removing the driveshaft and testing? Rule out the rear brakes and a bent housing. Just a thought.
