I was northbound on Groesbeck in southern Warren (for locals that know the area). I was doing 50, the speed limit. 2 Challengers, weaving light traffic, passed me at, I'm gonna guess, 130+. Basically the fastest I've ever seen a car (let alone 2) on a public road. I could hear them coming and watched in my rear view. I got over in the RH/slow lane and when the one Challenger passed my Ram 2500 the vacuum jerked my truck to the left. The following Challenger changed lanes, at speed and continued for a mile. The lights on this major road are 1/2 and 1 mile apart. One Challenger made the yellow. The other blew the red. this seems to becoming more and more common in and close to the Detroit area. I mean the blowing red lights at speed. Is it common in other big cities? Local nightly news is littered with dead bodies from Challengers and Chargers going through red lights at speed. Bad thing is there's nothing that can be done except avoid the area. The Mayor of Detroit said "60% of the residents dont have car insurance" so these crazy drivers have literally nothing to lose.

Yep I called 911 and had to ask to be put through to the next city because the cars would be out of this city (which is the 2nd largest in MI) by the time I was put through.

Ha! I just saw your post.

These were being driven like they were stolen. A couple days ago a young mother with 3 kids died when broadsided by a stolen Challenger that blew a red light at speed. It literally is becoming a daily event. Unfortunately we live on the border of Detroit and I have to remind my family that just because a light turns green to keep and eye out for people driving through red lights and stop signs. These are intentional acts with no respect for other drivers.

Can we get the Mexican cartels to help us with our supply chain issues? They don't seem to have any trouble getting stuff from one place to another.

Just people being really stupid! There is NO shortage of really stupid people anymore - young & invincible. That along with fast cars & COVID invites a really reckless attitude by some.

This. Not to mention "defunded" police departments who are scared to anything for fear of ending up on you tube or the 6 o'clock news. Who's going to stop them?

I'm going to order front and rear looking cameras to install in my truck for stuff like this or the one that kills me. Shocked the car companies dont install cameras that record as std equipment.

Seen that myself when I was heading downtown in the Big D, what I assume was a blacked out Hellcat passed me at waaay over 120, and when I tried to catch up to him, I would guarantee he was doing over 160 as we were only a few miles North of the downtown casinos. Flying.

Man, I've had the pleasure of driving in several foreign countries. The worst of which (not in order) were South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Turkey. I have to tell you, every day my little tourist town reminds me more and more navigating those roadways. Not necessarily at high speed, but things like people make right turns from the middle/left lane, haphazard lane changes, and a fresh red light seems to mean "3 more will be fine." To be honest, I think it has a lot to do with our self-centered, entitled youth that have zero consideration for anyone but themselves. Be careful out there...

All they're concerned about is selling cars....period. Watch TV and magazine ads: it's all about POWER. Commercials showing any type of vehicle doing crazy stunts: apparently speeding on snow covered roads, speeding on downtown streets. No more Plain-Jane vehicles marketed these days: every car is a "hot-rod", more HP then last years, etc. Then they sell to "people" who then think they are "hot rodders". The HP wars today are out of hand. Just no need for most of these to be out there. If it sells cars, that's all that matters. Put some of these cars behind the proverbial "hit the gas hard, hit the brake hard" type drivers, and these incidents shouldn't surprise you.

Fact is however, a lot did.

Sad thing is, a single well placed round thru the glass of an unoccupied tower will greatly diminish the inclinations of those previously eager to use the apparatus.

https://www.nbc26.com/news/local-news/driver-accused-of-going-104-mph-in-fatal-crash

I met this young man two weeks before this happened , and was in his car at Lambeau Field parking lot for a Mopar Cruise out of Milwaukee

392 Scat Pack Destroyer Gray

Sat and talked for 30 minutes

Two weeks later , I couldn’t believe it when I saw the color of this car all over the news and put everything together

His name wasn’t mentioned until days after

And the accident happened right down the road from Lambeau Field

So sad

God Bless all those involved

He's the one who should have rolled over & then burned a slow painful death. Sad for the innocent others, so sad..

Things are out of hand since covid. Of course I’ve not been out much, but when I have it’s not like it was. Used to be things were pretty sedate on the roads around where I live, one of the reasons I like it here. Well no more. Just this week I’ve had more fools speed up to close merging gaps than in four years total of living here. During the height if the shutdowns, my wife went to work and said areas posted for 55 she was driving 70 to keep from being run over. The people out then weren’t many, but the ones that were felt 90 plus was the limit and it was super dangerous. Kept being wrecks on that downhill area.

Be careful out there.

I have been working 6 days a week non-stop thru this in New Jersey which was hard hit. Mid March it was eerie - almost no one out driving, just us essentials and emergency services, Rt78, the Parkway 287 were ghost towns. We had a curfew. Lived here all my life and it was scary.

After a month or so more people started coming out. And a lot of them drove like it was Road Warrior times. What they didn't realize was the police had little to do besides sit and wait for them to fly by. To be honest at that point i liked them getting caught - so many BMWs driving like jerks for no reason. I am talking well over 100 because they thought they could.

I watched the traffic return. Seems more normal but I do miss the easy travel times. biggrin
