Small Block Straight small-block one where to get one?
I have not bought one in 15 years and when I did was only one I could find. And that was 15 years ago.
Yes, I know it is a thermostat housing. All I see are Billet Specialties Thermostat Housing 90820 O Ring and Milodon Billet Water Neck 65735 Gasket.
I lean to the Gasket Style Thoughts
I just hate cheapo leaking stuff and want to avoid one at all cost. Thanks

The last one was 60 bucks. $110 or more. Guess I will go to billet?
I may have A SS with the nipples I will look before buying that's for sure. Billet are 60ish.
Milodon Billet Water Neck and the Billet Specialties Thermostat Housings with O ring are close in cost I would assume that they would not leak? I am old school and like gaskets. Options on O ring VS Gasket Style? Does anyone use one of those 2 I listed?

2nd one down from the top. It's aluminum and not stainless, but the base is thick and should seal.

I would have no problem with the o-ring. They use the same receiver groove o-ring concept on high pressure hydraulics without leaks. The billet ss or aluminum world work just fine. Polished aluminum looks almost the same as ss.

I ordered up a Details about Billet Specialties 90820 - Straight Water Neck for SB-BB with O-Ring and a Nipple Kit for the Intake. From the Website Pics, the base does look thick. Would a light coat of Petroleum Jelly be ok to seal it?
Thanks

You really do not need anything for it to seal. I suppose a little lube wont hurt. They may have instructions with the parts with suggestions or to do's.

As for sealing, ALWAYS check that surface by running it over some sandpaper on a dead-flat surface.
Usually the sealing surface is bowed.
IIRC, a thermostat housing for a traditional Chevy V8 will fit; at least the gasket does.
I always glue the gasket to the thermostat housing and either Permatex #2 or wheel-bearing grease at the pump neck side.
Also, test the thermostat in boiling water with a meat thermometer before installation.
