I was watching the astronauts return to earth today. Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley have been in orbit for some time. It was going along just fine until the narrator started referring to them as Bob and Doug. That ruined it for me.

Yes, Bob and Doug are astronauts.

Been so long since I thought about the McKenzie brothers...that’s hilarious!
On the the event...it was awesome! Finally, finally the USA is back, and SpaceX has seriously delivered the goods. With astounding accomplishments over a period of just 18 years. Look, I don’t know what trying/going to Mars really means for humanity. But, I’d bet within 5 years there’s going to be a capsule with a couple astronauts headed that way. Maybe just get there, a quick spin around it and back. Then see how the human has held up after 14 months. Anyway, YAY, HOORAH!

I think it is time for our government to quit wasting tax payer dollars on space exploration like trips to Mars and further out.
Mankind can not live on another planet we know of so why waste our resources looking for that now work
I'm for using NASA for national defense and so on up
Let private enterprise develop space exploration for profit and pay for it themselves twocents

Long way to go for a beer run, eh? laugh2

While I was watching the stream, my dad of all people texted my brothers and I that the Dragon splashed down.

The capsule that just splashed down will be refurbed and used for crew-2 in the spring. A new capsule is being made now for the crew-1 mission... this september? Then it sounds like the boosters and capsules will be reused for every other mission after that. Pretty darn cool.

Takes me back to the Apollo days. It was funny to see how they handled getting those guys out of the capsule. Back during Apollo the capsule would splash down the rescue swimmers would open the hatch, each astronauts would exit and would be hoisted into a hello and taken to the carrier where they were isolated In a trailer. After some time they would emerge and give a press conference. The capsule would be slung loaded from a hello and taken to the carrier.

Watching yesterday I thought they hyped the even up. Funny seeing the Overhauling dude narrating. I was waiting for Chip Foose to greet the Astronauts.

I laughed out loud first time he called them that. Then all I could visualize from then on was was them sitting in the capsule yelling at each other "Take off, eh?" "Get off me you hoser!"

Here's a pretty good video talking about how the reentry process happens, and how/why a de-orbit time is chosen.

Gotta know, does the spacecraft retain enough reentry heat to say steam when it first contacts the water on splash down?

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

My uncle was a diver on the early Apollo missions.
