I used to take my mid-13 second 1971 Charger R/T to the track (Empire Dragway in Leicester, NY) pretty regularly from about 2003 to 2010 for test and tune. I swear it was quicker than at least 2/3 of the cars there if not more. The 330 horsepower Camaros and Firebirds would beat up on me and maybe a few other random cars, but that was about it.
Friday night I went to test and tune at Empire for the first time in a decade. My car is still basically the same, and I got my doors blown off by just about everything there, almost all of it modern. Chargers, Challengers, Mustangs, Camaros, Lexus, Cadillacs, Corvettes, etc.. The cars I raced ran 11.96, 12.93, 12.41, 11.92, and 12.45.
I took a little consolation in having the oldest car (I think) there other than a 69 Roadrunner that I think ran 11s at 115 or so and we honestly might have been the only 2 pre-1975 cars in the street class.
The times have changed and I have not kept up!
Greg

I was there last Friday, there were a ton of cars....We normally run the street class, but pulled the mufflers off and put slicks on for TNT.....We still have the street stickers from last year in the windows as its titled, registered and plated.....Semi'd it every time we ran with them...
We love pulling into the beams against a Hellcat with every bolt on part imaginable and then blowing the doors off it with our crusty 69 Dart.....You should see the looks on there faces...Typically it runs 10.70's in the street class, but has slowed to 10.90 after my engine builder sold the really nice carb off it...It was running really lean, and would not pull to full rpm...Probably should have left the mufflers on it.
Did you have the all white 71 Charger with the snow tires on it? If you did, I spoke to you and was pitted across the road from you.

I guess count yourself as lucky because I have seen a bone stock hellcat go 10.80s on slicks, same car with mods has been 9.50.
The modern muscle is amazing, and it sure can be tempting to sell the old junk and buy something with a warranty that will print time slips over and over without braking a sweat.
With a hellcat if you found the right area you could go drag racing and run high tens low elevens, then go road racing, then go do a standing mile event and run 160-170MPH all on the same tank of gas LOL.

Yep, it's shocking.
We go to the track regularly and I'd say it's even changed in the last 5 or so years.
At the local hole track we go to, there's a lot of beat up, grudge, toy and hot rod type cars with turbo's and all types of goodies. There are a fair share of newer Challengers, Chargers and Caddy's too.
We just went last weekend to meet a friend we made a Dragway 42 a few years ago. He just bought a 2016 Scat Pack Challenger. 100% bone stock down to the tires, it ran 12.50 in high 80 degree heat.
They had the score boards turned off later in the night but, there was a stupid fast 2006 Cummins there too that really impressed me. I bet it ran mid to high 10's. It was a rocket for that heavy of a truck.
I really like the track as we see all types of weird, hillbilly type combos that are really impressive. I mean, who turbocharges a Geo Metro. Not my cup of tea but, really impressive to see what people can do with what they have on a budget.

It is crazy how quick the cars have gotten in the last 5-10 years. It used to be a car in the 10's would be competitive in the heads up, street tire class. Now guys are in the 7's and 8's with turbo combo's that are the norm. I still like going out on Friday grudge nights and thumping some late model muscle. The sad part is, it takes a power adder on top of a BB stroker to keep up with late model muscle anymore.

We run 10s in big all steel B-body's all day, drive them on the street to your favorite cruise night. Love doing this! I drove mine to work today since the weather was mild.

I will there again this Friday with both the Duster, and the Dart, and Saturday with which ever one runs better....
If you want to talk with the Legend Ron Farley about building a stroker, he is the guy....unlike ammo right now, he has blocks in stock. We have a very good receipt for wedge strokers......We run 10s in big all steel B-body's all day, drive them on the street to your favorite cruise night. We currently have one all steel 65 with an 8-3/4 and a 440/526 running 10.40's on pump gas without a dominator...All from 440Source for the bottom end....and Indy heads. We have a similar car, a '69RR as it was out the factory apart from the paint/fibre bonnet (hood to you)@3828lbs, drive to the track, to shows, fill up anywhere with pump and cut 10.40's@127.5 with 1.43 60's through full exhausts, and a 950HP carb, ours is somewhat bigger than 526 though, pretty cool to do that with proper street cars
