Does anyone know the difference between a early "77" E-body 440-6 Pack K Frame and the later "74" that was used in late 1970 and 1971?

Has anyone seen a 440-6 pack K frame with "74" coin on it?

Thanks for your help!

I can relate a story my buddy and i had regarding an AAR Cuda we bought from a friend.

This was early 70s after the AAR caught fire and he sold it to us.

We re did the car and ordered a set of Hookers to race with.
Well we couldn't get them to clear the chassis or some other parts, (been a long time).

Called Hooker with the problem and they finally asked us if our Cuda was an AAR.

Said their experience was that the driveline geometry was one-of-a-kind for center of gravity improvement
for the AAR races.

Sent us a re-worked set that worked.

I've heard others say this was not the case.....but that was our experience.

Joe

Edit, OOPS, I now realize this was probably about a RB six pack, so disregard if not pertinent

I think that AAR had quick ratio steering.

An option on those was a pitman arm about 1” longer that will wreck havoc with header fitment. It pushes the end of the pitman and centerlink right into the headers. The pitman give quicker ratio steering.

Only suspension parts that interfere with headers are pitman, centerlink, and idler.

So.... the steering geometry IS one of a kind. That part is correct. Their reasoning is off or lost in translation from your friend and/or 40 years time.

But Hoooker’s expertise is building headers. Not trying to figure out factory suspension geometry.

I'm looking for the differences on a 440-6 pack K frame, not small block k frame.

Difference between a early "77" E-body 440-6 Pack K Frame and the later "74" that was used in late 1970 and 1971?

Has anyone seen a 440-6 pack K frame with "74" coin on it?

Thank you very much! This helps a lot!

I'm trying to figure out what the physical differences are between a earlier "77" coined E-body 6 pack K frame and a "74" coined E-body 6 pack K frame.

Could you post some detailed pictures from underneath of your K frame? I'm thinking maybe the differences might be in the sway bar area, but I'm only guessing.

Thank you for your help!

I have a 1971 6 pack Challenger that's missing the K frame. The build sheet calls for "74" K frame and not a "77" from 1970

I can't find a "74" K frame so I was going to try and make one. (A lot of 6 pack K frames don't have the coin to be able to identify)

Any ideas where I can find one or do you know the differences between the two?

Just a gut feeling -

coin number is the only difference.
What I would like to know is what is the significance of the coin and value stamped on it.

can't believe there is a structural difference.

The early build 440+6 GTX I have, has no coin at all on the K member.
