Where can you buy good units? Seems like ones that have "Chrysler" on them have about a 50% failure rate.

Aftermarket or ???

thanks

Do you mean ECU? If so read my post on the bouncing timing mark in this section.

I have been using the blue one out of JEGS. This is also the one that Ehrenberg pushes on his e-bay store. I like it. Have used it on three cars now, I think it is better than the orange box at start and idle. Have had no problems with it.

I mounted one behind the front passenger headlight on my Charger, worried about heat. But the other two have been on the firewall and have done fine.

You do need a ballast with it. I also run an Accel 8140 coil (repainted black) which seems like a good match for it.

Note...this is a street driven car

A few months ago I was looking for one, and I just scouted epay and got a few aftermarket brand NOS ones made 30-40 years ago I got a niehoff, I think an etron and a blue streak
All brand new but old enough to be American made, bought from different sellers.
So far I have used 2, one for a lean burn delete on an 85 D 150 and the 2nd one to rescue my son's 80 D150 that wouldn't pull itself to the parking space when he coasted into a parking lot and it wouldn't pull itself into the parking spot just in front of where he has stopped, as the potting had all melted out of the original 40 yo ECU.
#3 is going into my 78 Fury for it's lean burn ectomy. I do look when I am in the boneyards for them, would trust a used one that works when I plug it in over a new, current unit from today's parts stores that was made who knows where. At least as a ready spare

Problem is the original power transistor and quality substitutes went out of production and the redesign isn't as robust.

Well, the ST version went out of production in 2013, not sure when the Motorola version did. You can get offshore versions of the Motorola one, but the kwailty is real poor and even then the genuine Motorola one was not as capable as the ST one, 10A capacity versus 15A.

Cut open a current parts store ECU and there is just a modern style chip in it. Nothing like the originals and the transistor is just there for show. I put a 4 pin GM module in a old Chrysler ECU body and run that.

Gut an old ECU and put an 4-pin GM HEI-module in it.
Ensure a good coolingcontact againt the housing and connect the pins to the original connector on the inside, no-one will know the difference.
Howto-manuals can be found online with a simple search.

If you can find one of these, get one! Works great in my car...no problems at all, and has adjustable rpm rev limit as well. I use the MSD Blaster 2 coil and 4 pin ballast.

Thanks bro. if the revnnator is going to be out of stock for quite awhile I'm wondering if this one would be a suitable substitute?
