I have a low deck Eagle crank 3.900" stroke and 3.375" rod journal diameter. The problem I'm having is piston selection. It also seems like rod selection is limited to the 6.76" rod. What options are available?

The options are only limited by the size of your checkbook.

I wanted to avoid Grinding the the rod journals down to 2.200" or any unnecessary machine work. I was wondering if anyone knew of any pistions that might work. I found a Ross piston that might work #99496. There was some minor differences in the rod length (.008") and in the stroke (.015"). I just dont know if this would create any interference issues in the piston skirt and counter weight area.

You posted this topic in the race section so I assume it is a race engine. With race engines you have to do what you have to do. Order the pistons that you need to make the power that you're shooting for and buy rods that will support the power output. It shouldn't be a complicated process.

9.98 - 6.76 - 1.95 = 1.27 nominal piston compression height required.

Deck clearance is not quite as critical as bearing clearance.

What heads are you using ?

If you are using 906 iron heads, just let a 1.320 CH piston stick up into the open chamber .050" and get some quench to boot.
Check V/P clearance in the valve notches.

Or mill .050" off the 1.320 piston tops, for a zero deck deal with a quench chamber head.

i think the Ross 99496 might be the only piston for the 3.91"/6.76" combo in a low deck. the piston has 3.5cc dish and uses oil ring support rails.

I'd love to hear if anyone has experience with them.

I did a build back around 2003.
It worked well and had no problems. I went to a 4.25" stroke setup a few years later.
471 CID, 4.375 bore x 3.915 stroke, 400 bore +0.033, 440 crank
400 block, pad stamped 5T400, 6 12 E. Side stamped 5G202367
Casting 4006530-400-10, 2-15-75

Forged steel crank from 440 (small thrust surface)
Ross Pistons 99496, comp height 1.238, listed for 3.915 stroke, 6.768 rods
measured compression height 1.242" (extra 0.004" on top of piston)
Manley Sportsmaster I-beam rods, #14279, length 6.765, BB Chevy journal, .990 pin
measured length 7.758"
Scott Brown custom solid lifter cam, 272/280@0.050", 0.622"/0.600" lift.
Installed 4 degrees advanced.

Block decked to 9.962" (spec 9.980")

Call Icon pistons. If you are using a 400 block I'm sure they have a piston for you. I would bite the bullet and have the journals ground to 2.200 then you have a limitless selection of parts. Crap !Just dawned on me. I have pistons and rods you could use. Just listed them on Moparts. Check out the ad and call or email me if interested.

440Jim- I remember that combo from you posting back in the day. What was the compression ratio of that combo- do you recall the cyl head cc?

I ran that shortblock with both Edelbrock RPM heads and the epoxy ported Stage VI heads.
The Stage VI heads were 71cc, the Edelbrock RPM heads were milled to 72cc.
