Local body shop guy that paints all the local muscle guys cars, George's on 9 Mile, is supposed to swing by next week to take a look at this heap and see what he can do before I sell it for parts. Rust in the lower RH qtr, bunch of little chips on qtrs (maybe spray with gravel guard). The guy that painted it for me maybe 10 years ago now did something wrong and anywhere something is bolted down the paint has pushed up and flaked off. This was especially bad under the TA spoiler. I got a new AMD decklid (hoping it fits) and not sure if I'm just going to remove the TA theme and do a more correct rallye theme (I'm torn)
Need to pull the AndyF 470" engine so I can send my alum Hemi box back to Passon for a Hemi OD gear set. Praying he still has/does these. Anyone know?
Need to decide if I purchase some coated, extrude honed manifolds with 2.5" dumps or go with some SS headers $$$$, ouch). The TTI's look like crap now. Lastly gonna put power steering back in the car.
Thought about putting the Borgeson setup in but MAN there seem like some horror stories out there. I'd gamble it. Power would be nice. Could always put my manual box back in.

Orrrrrr, just have the body work done and get a wrap like this!

How much would a wrap like this cost to have done?

I like the rust wrap. You could always run that for fun for a few years and then fix the paint. If you put camo wrap on it I'll be coming to your house and pulling it off. whistling

I think it looks nice as-is. Could use some white letter tires though.

Had another old car years ago and the clear pushed up around the door mirror base. Luckily it never fell off. I think I simply put the car together too soon after it was painted.

That rusty wrap is funny. It would look right at home in Detroit. I'd love to see someone do a race car with that rusty wrap. Pull into the lanes looking like that and folks would be coming over to check it out.

How often have you driven in the last 5 years?

Is it in an attached or unattached garage?

Resorted cars need maintenance even if you are not driving them. Especially in rust belt.

They didn’t make a Rallye Challenger in 1971. It would have been an R/T or regular Challenger (w/optional 383HP or 340HP).

But everything on your car could be factory ordered except for the deck lid spoiler. I realize the bumpers aren’t OE elastromertic’s, but what they represent you could get. And I believe that was listed in the 71’Hustle Stuff performance accessories catalog. I know someone that bought his 71 RT Challenger in 1973 and it had that spoiler on it. He claims it was factory. But I bet the first owner added it early in ownership or had them add it at the dealer.

Nice looking Challenger. I'd drive the heck out of it as is. thumbs

I remember when you built the car and always enjoyed reading your posts about it. I am kind of in the same situation with my Challenger, Rolled it out after a few years of sitting and starting to work on it.
I think Passon still does offer the OD when I checked but that was a bit ago. Was debating between it and a T56 but ended putting the 4sp back in.
My TTIs don't look great but I would just get them re-coated. Maybe you could do a T/A exhaust to keep your theme going.
If you have doubts about the Borgeson box you could just get a stage 3 Firm Feel with long arms.
My vote is no wrap just get the paint fixed.

Is that a Cuda elastomeric bumper? I would be looking for a correct bumper....

They're glass bumpers on aluminum brackets.
PS They didn't make TA's in 71 so the theme is all wrong too smile

Post a picture of your Challenger!
Too keep costs down (cause I've been looking at a larger industrial building too) I'll probably just have the paint touched up, small rust spot fixed and decklid replaced and painted.
Have an email into Jamie to see about the Hemi OD gear set to swap the NOS Hemi gear set jami put into the alum 833 he built for me 10 years / 200 miles ago. Hopefully he'll give me a $50 credit towards the "old" gears.
I'm gonna follow AndyF's lead on installing the Borgeson box and use the Detroit Speed pump. He should really sell his brackets for this as a kit, wink, wink.
Finally when i put the engine back in I need to decide what to do with the headers. Pick up the coated, extrude honed manifolds. Go with some TTI shorty headers that would bolt right onto the 2-1/2" TT exhaust system in my car (WISH they did them in stainless). Or go with stainless headers. Only ONE manufacturer makes them. https://americanracingheaders.com/products/mopar-b-e-body-big-block-1967-1974?variant=33151950404

I like the current theme, though the front bumper fit would bug me.
The paint problem sounds like an adhesion problem, between the paint & primer, or primer & metal.
The cure for that is almost always stripping to a good surface and going from there.
Pretty sure Passon still does the OD and also sells the parts if you have a local guy or do it yourself.
Headers or manifolds is personal and depends on the car's theme.

I read on here years ago that TTI will make headers in stainless if your order them that way and pay the price difference. You have to have one of their vendors add an S to the product number or something like that???

If it was free it was too much.

Couple pics. The first one was when it was on the road. The second is the latest project. The old top was ripped below the window.
Been doing little things like new tti exhaust( still have to get their $500 exhaust tips), new gas tank, put old trans in, and fix issue with the Hotchkis UCAs. Still need to fix the power windows and have my gauges fixed.
I also would like to follow AndyF's lead but with Holley Sniper FI maybe this winter.

The black “T/A” hood you have was absolutely an option. Very few cars exist with docs. But the are out there.

I've always liked that car myself so I would leave it the way it is, well other than the front bumper, either an elastomeric or back to chrome.
Good to see you working on it again!

Dave.

If you aren't driving the car much maybe sell it and put the money into a new building? You'll just need to pay attention to the tax implications. But maybe a capital gains in the same year as a large capital outlay would work out. Be easier if the business owns the car. Your business should own that car since it an R&D expense. Don't know if you have it set up that way or not.
