I am restoring a 67 Coronet convertible and want to paint the convertible top frame before installing the top fabric. Either in this forum or in the Q&A forum I saw something about this but I can't find it again. Waht is the correct paint code for the black frame and what type of paint should be used? I have CRS but I think it said you have to use a special paint type.

Restoring my 68 Dart frame is on my list for this year. SEM Trim Black seems to be a great color match for what I've seen but my frame has been exposed to the elements quite a bit. I'd be interested in hearing what others have used.

A friend of mine repainted his top frame using rattle-can paint. A while after he put the top on the paint started to bleed through. I don't want that to happen as I am using a white top. Hopefully someone can help.

SEM sells their paint in 1 gallon and 1 quart sizes. They don't just sell it in spray cans.

I use SPI black epoxy.

I just restored a convertible top frame for a customer and I blasted, epoxy primed and painted in single stage urethane with 40% flattening agent mixed in. Looks spot on and will not fade or allow moisture underneath.

Get your new top before you restore the frame. When I replaced the top on my 65 coronet I had to paint the frame. Originally the outside and inside of the top was white, with the frame white also. My new top had the outside white and the inside black. The original white frame would have stuck out badly if left original white. At the time I could not find a white white top, don't know if they are offered today.
