Sounds like it was a loaded caliper from the store.
Yes the piston is sticking and not going back in. Call the store and ask about their warrenty.

Glad you got it fixed! A friend went through 5 starters for his mom's 2.2 Caravan before getting a good one. They are not easy to swap! You might want to change the title to reflect the update, problem solved. So few come back and document what fixed the problem!
