I have an old truck with its stock 440 that has sat outside for many years. I am working on getting it running again and found that there is quite a bit more fluid in the pan then there should be (haven't drained it yet, but it is black). The hood has been closed, but the radiator is dry. It has not been run all these years. We have winter here and my concern is that it has a cracked block and the antifreeze/water has leaked into the pan. I was planning on changing the oil and starting it up after priming the oiling system. I am confident it will start. Is there any other explanation for the extra fluid in the pan?

Before you do anything else to the truck remove the oil pan drain plug with a large catch container, 2.5 gallons or bigger, and see what drains out first, oil or coolant scopeluck
Let us know what you find, that will helps others on here up

I'm going with antifreeze. Fuel would have evaporated over years of sitting, I think..... Gene

Finally drained the fluid out of the pan. Antifreeze first, water second and oil third. A lot of rust under the valve covers. Not looking good. Hoping the block isn't cracked.

I hate to say this but your probably correct on suspecting a crack in the block or heads scope
I''ve had many cracks fix in both heads and block by pinning them, make sure to have a good shop do that work for you up scope

If there is antifreeze in the oil pan, a crack is internal, and probably very hard to repair, and there may be several cracks. I think the 440 is probably yard art, or a boat anchor.

Just for kicks, with the drain plug out, pour a little water into the radiator, and see how long it takes the water to run out of the drain plug. I had a block so bad once the water ran out of the drain plug in the oil pan almost as fast as you could pour it into the radiator. That was entertaining for a few minutes. Gene

I had one 413 industrial HD truck block that had freeze cracks on the external driver side of the block and one in #3 cylinder, I had it sleeved and try to fix the external crack myself tsk down The sleeved leak and so did my fix whiney
On the positive side I've had a lot of Mopar blocks sleeve successfully with no issues up
One of my customers had a 1965 426 street wedge block that had two external freeze cracks and one internal casting flaw that leak coolant into the oil pan, I had all three fixed by drilling and pinning after he insisted on fixing that block, that was a long time ago and it was $100.00 a inch back then at a decent machine shop, I think his bill was over $600.00 to fix the three cracks in that block shruggy
