For a smaller displacement street motor, go with a .81-.96 turbine A/R and a decent compressor size. I bought the 1.05 A/R housing and it spools SSLLOOWWW on my 318. I wish I would have known more and I would have got something smaller.

That's where I don't agree. Mine is a 1.32 A/R and a 96mm wheel...

With a 2600 (on motor only) stall. I could foot brake 1200rpm into the beams, grab the trans brake and floor it as soon as I staged the car. I could be to 10psi before the bottom bulb went on without an issue.

So zero boost to full boost in 1 second. I can also go from 8psi to 20psi in under a second after a I let go of the trans brake.

Just depends on what your definition of "slow" spooling is I guess. But mine is not bad at all in my opinion.

Here is a video of mine from rolling on the throttle in the car... you can hear it doesn't take long to spool up at all.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-3Ko4PYG9SvUUJGYXZQTkdQa28

Here is one from a roll in first that I flat foot it. (you can hear the big ol' pedal hit the floor... lol

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-3Ko4PYG9SvY0QxMXluaUdhUWc

That being said, after I tightened the converter so it will only go to 2200rpm on motor, it's absolutely TERRIBLE on spool up. But I blame the converter, not the turbo A/R.

Just like anything, you just need to match the components to make them work good.

I imagine mine would spool well on a tbrake but off the footbrake with a tight converter it sucks

I believe that!

Plus with the 318, it isn't exactly a torque monster without the turbo.

I'm ready for my 360 to be in but I'm going to swap to the glide first with a better converter and see what the 318 will do all out. O yeah and it's got 100hp worth of nitrous for that too lol

It's winter here so I won't have any updates till spring.
M1 is VP Methanol for those that think it's a intake.

Pic is from Cordova World series 2014.

If your still building boost but it topped out you need a bigger exhaust housing, or complete bigger turbo

Really liking the idea of putting a turbo on 383 in a slick old f5 belvedere 1 4door. Any advantages/disadvantages of using a 4 speed with that engine set up?

4 speed won't build boost as easy as an automatic will. No converter to load against at the starting line, no "flash stall" to make RPM from a roll.

I meant 65 not f5. So if I was to use a basicly stock engine, small cam, would a stock convertor work? Say a 2200 stall?

Just depends on what you're goals are. But if you keep the boost down, it won't break parts.

Anything will make power with boost. I think quickd100 has proven that.

Stock 318...

A tight 3500 stall made a night and day difference in mine.

But I have a Comp 280,480 cam in it also.

It's been ages since I've been on here.

The budget turbo Belvedere is still kicking, Msd 7531 box, C&S Aresol and a much larger turbo.
383 is still basically stock.

Hopefully I'll get it back to the track eventually!

Here is a pic @ Cordova for the World Series 2015. 62 years straight.
Last time they had that event before new owners moved it.

Foot brake column shift bench seat.
I melted the stock cast pistons before this launch.
I warmed it up on the return road.

My timing map was messed up somehow.... O well

I think the old girl held up good to 7 years if 20+ lbs of boost non intercooled.

I posted in this thread back in 2013 regarding my future 383 turbo plans for my '69 Super Bee... though Id share that I finally built mine and took it out for its maiden voyage just a few days ago.
