Thinking of still building a stroked 383 blower engine......Whats the latest available roots or screw blower tech? What are BDS Air Lock rotors? Do they make a roots blower that keeps up with a screw blower that does not need re-stripping?

Are any of them better than a Procharger?

Where is Hemi-itis when you need him?

My roots 8-71 has 3 strips per lobe to seal any gap[.009] to the case.Depending on what hp you want to make.the small auto rotor or Lysholm[sp] can make some power. The roots is simple but the centrifugal need a fuel system built with it and is more money.I stuck with the basics.

I wouldn’t run a stripped blower on anything under 15 psi. Especially on a street car. Get the engine to flow better, big cam good heads, and a clearanced roots.
If you are racing and high boost, then start looking at stripped blowers. If you have buko mulah, get a psi blower!

Stay away from BDS, Bad Dam Service down for any roots blowers, call Littlefield at 714-992-9292 or some one else that makes decent products, not BDS twocents

One of the best buys in roots now is a blower shop XR1. Extremely efficient, and about half the cost of a dmpe, bme or fowler. They'll set it up for whatever your use, or desired service interval is. They are the best I've seen in even distribution when only fed from the top too.

Bought the BDS over 20 years ago.Stage 3 with teflon strips and hardened case. I'm not up on the latest and greatest but the Blower Shop billet HH seems to be a good one. Is this a "race" only deal?
I am intercooling with nitrous, but corn works to an extent.

Easy test for Roots development: is the discharge port a rectangle the full length of the rotors? Or a much smaller triangle directly behind the nose, with much of the rotor area masked?

Well that XR1 looks like a beast....Looks like all the good roots blowers are all nylon stripped. While it looks like the screw blowers are not.....I like the idea of no maintenance to the rotors just for consistency...When I was down at Jan Cen years ago, I got to watch Mike Jr re-strip a couple of rotors and make the nylon end caps.....All hand made tools and bench....WAPITA that looked like. couple that with 18 strips to an XR1 blower, and that seems expensive. I am also learning, none of these are cheap blowers....Just wondering if there is something better than a Procharger...Roots just look way better.

I'm an exhibitionist, not a competitor.Once the teflon wears and clearanced it no longer wears. If your looking to squeeze every bit out of it they restripe those rotors every 2 or 3 runs.

Hampton blowers don't use strips. GP hydroplanes run them for years and unless something goes through them, they require zero maintenance.
