Hello,

I recently purchased a set of Hoosier 31x16.5 QTPs Part # 17800. Advertised spec on 12" wheel is:
Section width 15.8 ( I contacted Hoosier tech support to confirm this prior to ordering the tire)
Height 30.9
Circumference 97"

After installation of the tires on my 15x12 wheels by my local tire store. The actual measurements are:
Section width 16.4
Height 31.7
Circumference 99.5" (written on the tread of both tires in yellow tire chalk from Hoosier is "99 1/2"

Reducing air pressure down to 10 psi from 20 psi, had a minimal impact of about 0.1"

The overall larger size of the tire from their specifications, now hinders the tire to big for my wheel well.

I plan to contact Hoosier on Monday, explain the concern and hopes of some type of remedy to the situation. Besides the tire being larger then expected, its a very nice looking quality tire that I'd love to try.

Has anyone else ran into this situation with drag racing/bias-ply tires before?
Is there a particular tolerance widow where this type of tire maybe slightly larger or smaller then specification?
Any experience working with Hoosier or other drag tire manufactures with this type of concern?

Any experience or advice you can share would be helpful.

Thank you

I run those exact tires, but never measured them. They always seemed small to me for the foot print based on advertised width, but I run them on a 15 wide rim....I do not have as tight of wheel well as you, as I can go to a standard 14x32 slick and fit them with no trouble.

PS great all around DOT tire....1.33 60ft with them on my car, but mine are getting down there in tread.

Should have had them send a different set when you saw the 99.5. the only tires I ever purchased for my race cars that were spot on were Mickey PBR's.

I feel for you. This happened to me back around 92 with a set of Goodyear's. Always ran 31x13 and never had a clearance issue, until I did. They measured out closer to 32". Now I always check the circumference before mounting. I hope Hoosier steps up for you. Good luck.

Ok
