Well,?

The car Im trying to buy is gonna need something besides pump gas.
Current owner mixes high test and race fuel. which gets expensive

Im looking at alternatives if at all possible .

To boost pump gas to high enough octane with boosters would cost more than race gas.

The active ingredient in most of them used to be toluene. Google up toluene and octane and you will find some info and recipes.

Here in the Great White North Toluene is CDN$25 a gallon at Home Depot. A gallon of Klotz is $60+ at Summit.

Tetra-ethyl lead (T.E.L.) is still for sale in bulk,
and is of course used in Commercially sold aviation gasoline.
You must use protective gloves when blending in TEL as it is poisonous.

MMT is for sale, and is cheaper in bulk by far, than the small cans of MMT containing octane booster sold in auto parts stores. MMT is still widely used in overseas gasoline, and is advertised as a “green chemical” because it reduces greenhouse gases emitted per mile driven.

The first octane booster discovered was Iodine, like used as antiseptic for cuts.

E85 is an readily available alternative with higher octane 105 AKI alternative if you are willing to change air fuel ratio.

Methanol and water blends sprayed into intake manifolds both boost Octane rating, and cool the intake charge for an additional power gain.

Summit has some stuff...so I bought it. After doing some math it would have cost just as much to get the real stuff. I plan on visiting my local air strip for AvGas. It is 110 and NO alcohol.

I used the Snow Performance kit on my old Charger build. Works very well.

Thanks all for the replies.
I work for an airport. but have never ckd into the availability to buy AV gas . Sounds like I may need to .

I have a drag strip less than maybe 5 miles from the house and might ck there to see if they can pump race gas on site. Otherwise Ive found a location that sells it maybe 10 miles away.

At some point in the next few years I will be looking at opening this thing up and do a piston swap to drop it a pump gas friendly level

Ive not heard to much good things about octane in a can over the years and wanted some 1st hand information

I had some good use with the “race gas” concentrate from summit. You mix one with the 20 gallons and it worked well.

Has anyone actually tested the fuel before and after to see if the octane changes?

Good luck finding Toluene in the states. Apparently there are some people that prefer to kill off the three brain cells they were born with by inhaling it, so it's been generally unavailable and replaced by Xylol Xylene. You can get it, but it's not all that easy anymore nor is it cheap.

The new name for the old Ethyl Corp is Afton

Their presently sold Octane boosting additives

https://www.aftonchemical.com/SBU/Fuels/OctaneAdditives

I would not be surprised if the Summit product that costs $1 per ounce
is just re-bottled Afton additive with a large mark-up,
or perhaps a Chinese made competitor to Afton.

I used Klotz in my 13:1 Hemi mixed with 93 octagon unleaded for the street drive portion of drag week. I didn't drive it hard on the street, but I never had a ping or a rattle. I switched over to race gas for the track.

I read that Hemi's like higher compression. It would be nice to be able to effectively run a Snow Water/ethanol injection set-up to eliminate your detonation issues. Once dialed in, simply adding a mixture of water and ethanol would sure be easy and relatively inexpensive. You could even run a larger tank to last through multiple fill ups of pump swill.

Try and find out how the guy has his timing curve set-up. It may not be optimal as far as reducing gas knock.
