The Big Three’s foray into widespread electric cooling fan usage flared in the 1980s with many passenger cars utilizing 12-volt motored units to replace outdated and inefficient crankshaft-spun air movers. Pickup trucks slowly followed suit to the point where most every new passenger vehicle on a given dealership’s lot nowadays is nearly guaranteed to have at least one electric radiator fan.
