A friend has a 67 GTX and someone stole his fender tag at a show. Is it possible to find the info that was on the tag? He does not have a pic of the tag. I know they can be reproduced but need the numbers from somewhere. He is beside himself as his car is super nice. I'm trying to help him because he is an older gentleman.

What kind of a-hole steals a fender tag...?

Broadcast sheet will have the info, but to be honest the pre-'69 tags still baffle me a bit.
Might be able to reconstruct the info from the mymopar.com site.

One reason I always take a pic of the fender tag when I buy a car. Not the first time I have heard of this happening. Did you ask him if he had taken a picture? Sometimes people forget that they may have at one time.

I've heard of people using a small machine screw with nut on the bottom side to attach their fender tags. It looks stock from the top and it's almost impossible to steal at a show.

Some options: (Comments welcome).

1.) If your buddy has the Buildsheet / Broadcast sheet, that ought to have everything that the 67 fender tag would have listed on it. Not 100% sure, but that the gold standard.

2.) Start with the VIN RP23L7... and have your buddy list all the options he can recall. You can then "back into" what the Fendertag would have listed from those options: Body Color, Interior and Trim Color, etc.. Do you research about what Fendertags list for options. I don't recall how or if the Sequence number relates tp the VIN.

Discuss the theft with police - in case it's used to clone a car.
They shouldn't list your VIN as stolen, because then YOU'LL be identified as the thief if you get stopped and VIN checked.

Best of luck,
- Art

Another reason to have a reproduction on the car and the original in the garage.

That’s what I do on my 70 Cuda. Complete with nylocks. A thief’s head would be caved in before he could get the tag.

The VIN is not on a 1967 fender tag. Just the first 4 digits. Gtx is RS23

Get a copy of the IBM card from Chrysler historical and it will tell you all about the car.

Just going by what the car is today is not always accurate to what it was originally. You need something to go off of that was part of the factory documentation of the car. Otherwise you are making fake documentation. Options get added, colors changed. Green and brown column shift cars turn to blue, red, turquoise 4 speeds with all he goodies. Happens too much.

Exactly. Tell the old fella to get a replacement tag that reads "TAG STOLEN AT YXZ CAR SHOW. REWARD FOR INFO LEADING TO THE SOB CURRENTLY IN POSSESSION."
It takes a special kind of low-life to do such a thing...

UPDATE, I made a deal to buy the car I asked about. The current owner has been in contact with Chrysler Historical to get the IBM card info but was told sometime after the 1st of the year. It is 100% matching numbers and unaltered with 69,000 original miles. He had it repainted and new seat covers installed but no build sheet to be found.
