Dodges that are Plymouth’s and Plymouth’s that are Dodges and Chrysler’s that are Plymouth’s. Some people refer to them as Plodges. Chrysler made some “hybrid” models over the years. Mixing front ends of Dodges and bodies of Plymouth’s, or vice versa. Combining Dodge and Plymouth panels to create different models. These cars looked like a Dodge from one end, and. Plymouth at the other. The 71-76 Demon and Dart Sport are good examples. By simply bolting on Dodge Dart front sheemetal to a Plymouth Duster body, making a few taillight changes etc, a whole new car was “created” (These were also sold in Mexico as Dodge Super Bees.) This was a common practice for Chrysler from the 50’s on. The 55-59 Canadian Dodge Regent, Mayfair, Crusaders were Plymouth’s with Dodge front ends. Some lower priced 57-59 DeSotos used a Dodge body, while the higher priced models used a Chrysler body. The 62-63 Dodge 880 was a 62 Chrysler body, with 61 Dodge front end. Which is ironic, since the 62 Chrysler itself was a 61 Dodge Polara, with 61 Chrysler front end and new quarter panels. So in reality, the 62 Dodge 880 was a 61 Polara, with new quarters. Confused yet? (The 64 Dodge 880 was another restyle of the 62 Chrysler/880 body, with 63 Chrysler bumpers. ) The 63-66 Canadian Valiants were Dodge Darts with Valiant front ends. The 71-76 Scamp was also a Dart with a Valiant front end. The 74-76 Valiant sedans were Dart sedans with Valiant front ends. The 70 Superbird was a Plymouth Road Runner body with Dodge Coronet fenders and hood (modified) The 75-78 Plymouth Fury 4 doors were a Dodge Coronet/ Monaco with Plymouth grille and badges. In fact, 1974 was the end for the true Plymouth B body. When the new 75 Coronet and Fury B body 2 doors came out, they shared one body. Using the Dodge hood, header panel, grille and bumper on a restyled Satellite. So the side styling is like an evolution of the 71-72, 73-74 Plymouth Satellite 2 doors, but with a Dodge sedan hood, grille and bumper. In Mexico they sold the Diplomat with a 1980 Aspen front sheet metal, and called it a Valiant Volare. (They also sold the Diplomat coupes with a 360 4 barrel 4 speed and called it a Magnum ) The 78-79 Dodge Magnum was essentially a Chrysler Córdoba with its own unique front sheet metal, door skins and taillights, creating a very unique looking car. ( Did you know the Córdoba was intended to be an upscale Plymouth Satellite? But marketing department decided to sell it as the first “small” Chrysler. ) Wagons are a whole story again, with most based on one wagon body that shares elements of Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler styling, with different front sheet metal. And then there’s the dashboards and interiors. Chrysler loved to mix and match dashboards. Here in Canada, we had Plymouth’s with Dodge dashes, Dodge’s with Plymouth dashes. Chrysler Corporation cars were designed with so much interchangeability, that depending on the market, they could mix and match parts and come up with unique cars for unique markets.

Then there's this. Using the better looking (in my opinion) front end with the better looking rear...

Don't forget about the Dodge and Plymouth Neons. Everybody joined the Neon party... Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler all sold Neons US got Dodge & Plymouth emblems, Mexico & Europe got Dodge & Chrysler emblems. Australia got Chrysler emblems... At least in the 50-70's they gave the same car different grills, lights & NAMES

Don't forget about the Dodge and Plymouth Neons. Yes, the Neons were marketed with different branding, but the topic here was about cars with sheet metal etc combined from different brands. In fact here in Canada, the Neon wasn't a Dodge or Plymouth. It was Chrysler. The Intrepid was also sold as a Chrysler in Canada instead of a Dodge .

Yeah, I'm confused since the 1962 Chrysler was just like the '61 except for new rear fenders.

Yeah, I'm confused since the 1962 Chrysler was just like the '61 except for new rear fenders. OK, let me explain why the 62 Chrysler is actually a Dodge. The 60-61 Chrysler [and Desoto] have long fins that are integrated into the doors as well. A sloping trunk lid and a unique lower tail panel, and rear bumpers. The 60 Polara has smooth doors with no body lines, quarters unique to the Polara, and smooth trunk lid, tail panel and bumper that are unique to all the 61 Dodges. No exterior body panels were shared between 61 Chryslers and 61 Dodges, except some roofs. When the 62 full size Dodges were dropped, being replaced with the new for 62 B bodies, Chrysler Corp decided to use up some Dodge parts to create the 62 Chrysler. So, they took the 61 Polara body shell, designed some new quarter panels, bolted on the 61 Chrysler front fenders, hood and grille etc, and voila! Instant 62 Chrysler. It used the 61 Dodge doors, trunk lid, tail panel, rear bumper and related bits. Only the quarter panels were new for 62. Then.... in a weird twist of events, the 61 Dodge "reappeared" mid year 62 as the Dodge 880. This was done because the dealers were having a hard time selling the new smaller 62 B body Dodges, and they begged for a full size car. So Chrysler "created" the 880, which was essentially the 62 Chrysler with the 61 Polara fenders, hood, grille and bumper. It looked just like a 62 Chrysler from the rear and a 61 Dodge from the front. But, as I mentioned, the 62 Chrysler was really a 61 Polara with new quarter panels. So the 62 880 used the same trunk lid, tail panel, rear bumper as the 62 Chrysler too, which really were 61 Dodge parts anyway. So in a nut shell: the 62 Chrysler was a 61 Polara with new quarters, and a Chrysler face. the 62 Dodge 880 was a 61 Polara with new quarters.

Continuing the 61 Polara-62 Chrysler-62 880 topic.
The 63 Dodge 880 also used the 62 Chrysler body from the windshield back, but now had its own front fenders, hood and grille. There were some restyled taillights to freshen up the rear. It still used the 61 Dodge / 62 Chrysler / 62 880 rear bumper, but now used the 63 Chrysler front bumper. The doors were still the 60-61 Dodge / Plymouth smooth doors. Then the 64 880 comes along. It uses a restyled grille, and the 63 880 fenders, hood and 63 Chrysler front bumper, still uses the 60-61 Dodge / Plymouth doors, but has brand new rear quarters, trunk lid, tail panel, but also uses the 63 Chrysler rear bumper.
So one could argue that the Polara never really did go away, other than for a brief period in the first half of the 62 model year. The 60 Polara became the 61 Polara, which became the 62 Chrysler and 62 Dodge 880, 63 Dodge 880 and then the 64 Dodge 880. The same car kept evolving, with some name and identity changes along the way.
The 60,61 Plymouths, 60,61 Dodges, 61,62 Chrysler, 61 DeSoto, 62,63,64 Dodge 880's all used the same doors [or door front shape on the Chrysler and DeSoto], and the fenders etc will swap between all these cars. Imagine the combinations! We see the 61 Plymouth front end on a 62 Dodge above, how about a 61 Plymouth front end on a 62 Chrysler, or a 64 880? or a 60 Polara front end on a 61 Polara? or a 63 880 front end on a 61 Plymouth? or a 62 Chrysler front end on a 61 Plymouth? or a 61 Plymouth front end on a 61 DeSoto? or a 61 DeSoto front end on a 60 Plymouth? I like the 61 Polaras, but some people aren't crazy about the front end appearance. I think the 61 Polara quarters and taillights are sleek and great looking. So, you could take the front end you do like, and bolt it on the Polara to get the look you do like. I'd like to see a 62 Chrysler 300 front end on 61 Polara. There are many possibilities to create a weird one off combo. Which is just what Chrysler did to create the 62 Chrysler and 62 880

How about the 90-92 Dodge Monaco that was a re-badged Eagle Premier? And, the Chrysler Conquest version of the Mistubishi Plymouth Laser version of the Eagle Talon/Mitsubishi Eclipse Dodge Raider version of the Mistubishi SUV Mitsubishi Raider pickup (re-badged Dodge Dakota) and many other more modern examples...

Dynasty . . . Chrysler or Dodge . . . in Canada (Could be either if I recall??) . . .
1980 Plymouth Caravelle = 1980 Dodge Diplomat = 1980 Chrysler LeBaron = 198? Plymouth Gran Fury (M body) = Mexican 198? Magnum It was always Chrsyler Dynasty. The Caravelle thing was weird.. 1978 and 1979 and possibly 1977 too Canada had Plymouth Caravelle, Dodge Diplomat and Chrysler LeBaron while the US only had the Dodge and Chrysler. Then when they finally got their Plymouth with the Gran Fury it still stayed Caravelle here even tho the FWD Caravelle was also around.
