Also, if you have power steering make sure they are supposed to fit.

Hey folks,
Looking for good fitting headers for 1970 Challenger 340 with 727 trans to clear Hi Torque (mini) starter and also with good ground clearance less than $600.
Thanks! FWIW, I'd use manifolds off a 90's 5.9 Magnum engine - 318 is the same also I believe. They are a great design, & bolt right up. I pulled the crappy manifolds off my 73 340 Charger Rallye & used Magnum manifolds w/no gasket. Only thing I had to do was get a different trans dipstick tube from Masta Performance - the RH OE tube was in the way of the manifold. Everything installed from the top no problem.

I'd like to know more about the 90s magnum manifolds as well. Are you supposed to use a gasket and if so, which is the best?
Also, what is the part number on the Masta Performance dipstick?
What does everything think about these headers from Ebay?? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Long-Tube-Exhaust-Headers-Fits-Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth-Small-Block-318-340-360/333018998049?fits=Year%3A1970%7CModel%3ACuda%7CSubmodel%3ABase%7CEngine+-+Liter_Display%3A5.6L%7CMake%3APlymouth%7CTrim%3ABase%7CEngine%3A5.6L+5572CC+340Cu.+In.+V8+GAS+OHV+Naturally+Aspirated&hash=item4d897aa521:g:PUkAAOSwUu5cP8A9
Price is cheap (most likely chinese).... has anyone tried them?

Also, what is the part number on the Masta Performance dipstick? As far as the trans dipstick, call & talk with Dan Masta - tell him what you have & what you are running (manifold or header-wise) & he will know which one to use. As far as the 318/360 Magnum manifolds, these are available new aftermarket. Both sides sweep back & aim down at about a 45* angle. I did not use ANY gaskets with mine & they did not leak at all. You will need to take a gasket for a 340/360 & hold it up to each manifold because the Magnum manifold webbing needs to be ground & tapered away in the center two so the exhaust does not hit an edge when entering the manifolds. EASY to do with a grinder. As far as plumbing your headpipes to fit these, any competent muffler shop can do this - they will flare the headpipes to mate up with the male lip at the exit of each manifold. Go to Rock Auto - they have new ones for cheap, plus you can view photos of them to see the design. Go to Dodge 1996, Ram 1500, & 5.9 motor, & exhaust manifolds.

In the world of small block mopar headers it comes down to two options. Headers that dont hang low and headers that hang low. The desirable units that dont hang low start at pricey and go up to incredibly expensive. BUT these headers (Dougs and TTI) are made from heavy wall tube steel and have thick flanges. The hang low headers are incredibly affordable, hang low and are made from much thinner steel. The above headers in the ebay link will hang low.

I went with TTI on my 1970 Challenger 340+6. I really like them.

Unless the factory manifolds are missing when you buy the car. Then you can consider exercising alternative options ;-)

I've run Hooker 5115 for past 30+ years (ceramic coated)... they clear the Fast Ratio longer pitman and idler arms for my T/A ps unit. the ground clearance is OK, but since my car is a low-rider, I always have to be careful about certain road conditions... and have bottomed them out a couple times... damage not bad to the lowest tubes, but evident. (Actually, the longer idler arm requires a slight notch at on tube... just ding into it for a bit of extra clearance.)
HOWEVER, as I'm building a new engine now, installed, etc... I noticed the shape of the Hooker 5115 ports do NOT properly match the Fel-Pro header gaskets (regardless, should be the same for all brands). THAT explained to me WHY I've always had a slight exhaust leak at certain ports. The problem is the raised ridge welded ares of the headers... they are not very good at matching the gasket ports. SO.... I've taken time to use Hi-Temp JB WELD putty and expand the header flange sealing areas from their raised ridges... this will now seal properly against the gaskets.
Depending how well the HI-TEMP JB WELD holds up, I may, eventually, purchase a set of TTI headers... for ground clearance.. as well as,hopeful much better sealing at the gasket ports (matching ports).
