Surgery tomorrow, and they say a few weeks' recovery.
Not that there's ever a good time for such a thing, but stuff happens.
The point of this is to say that if ANYTHING in your vision seems a bit weird, have it checked NOW, rather than waiting a week or so.
Once a retina starts to detach, things get worse pretty quickly.

How did your surgery go. I went for a surgery consult Monday. I have Carataconis in my left eye. Basicly the cornea is no longer round.
Waiting on the insurance approval.

Sorry to hear that. I never heard of it until Tom from the Bob and Tom radio show had it happen to him not long ago. He had to stay on the couch and take it easy for a few days. Didn't seem all that long and he was back at work. Hopefully it goes good for you as well.

Sorry to hear that. What symptoms/ issues were you having prior to detachment?

One of my reps had this happen suddenly a couple years ago. He had surgery to fix it & his vision is fine now, but for several months he had little to no vision out of the affected eye. Good luck with yours.

Just happened to my older sister.

I started seeing “shooting stars” out on the far edges of my vision 2 years ago and went into the eye doctor. She took super high res pictures and said so far mine was pulling loose gently, but that if I started seeing large numbers of new “floaters” suddenly head to the ER as soon as possible.

With my sister she went from seeing extra new floaters to no vision in that eye within 3 hours.

If you are over age 57 sometime in the next few years this attachment of the back of “the white of your eye” to the area around the rods and cones is going to either come loose slow and gently without damage,
or too quickly so that there is bleeding.

Symptoms vary - can be the shooting stars, or kinda like fireflies, or floaters.
In my case there were fireflies from time to time that cleared up.
Last couple weeks it seemed like I had something in my eye like debris that just clouded the vision a bit.
Sometimes it seemed to clear up but would come back.
Wasn't going away with eye-wash so made an appointment.
They seem cautiously optimistic that it'll be fixed and maybe better with all the stuff they do.

They are doing a lot more now, procedures , medications, etc. It is important like you said to see a specialist if you have any change in vision. Early this year I noticed my left eye, which is my "lazy" eye with not as good vision, seemed blurry in one corner. Turns out I have Glaucoma and they had to do tubular stent drainage surgery to relieve high eye pressure. It took a couple months to recover and I'm taking eye drop meds to keep the pressure normal. I wish you luck with your procedure.

My dad, brother and brother-in-law have all had this happen. My brother and brother-in-law both had to have bands wrapped around their eyes to hold everything in place. I think they both have some permanent loss of sight in the affected eyes. My brother has a black spot in the middle of his vision all the time now. My brother-in-law was in his early 40's when it happened to him. My brother was in his late 20's.

I hope everything works out for you!

My mom had it a few years ago. She has some other issues but they gave her two choices either normal surgery of some sort or laser and I think they told her the surgery way would have an affect on her vision and couldn't be repeated, the laser way is less invasive but she would have to have regular eye exams because the problem could reoccur. She went with the laser way.

I just went thru this in March. Went from seeing squiggly lines to no vision in my right in in about 40 minutes. Right eye was detached, left eye had partial detach and several tears. Surgery wasn't bad. Weird part was waking up during the procedure with needles sticking in my eye. They inflated a gas bubble in my right eye to keep pressure on it while it heeled. That goes away slowly. Took about a month for it to be completely gone. Four months out now and everything is going great.

Thought I'd do an update, and say thanks for the well-wishes.
So far, so good, it seems.
A couple typos might sneak through here, trying to keep head down.
The surgery deal was weird, as I had some kind of Fentanyl cocktail.
So I spent the time describing the weird patterns & stuff I was seeing, to the Doc's apparent amusement.
The laser sounded like a mini-tig-welder.
Got some welds, a gas bubble, and a "buckle".
Kinda goofy now, like looking through a fish tank with that eye, and of course the depth perception is wacky.
The sofa time, head-down position, & needing rides are a bit frustrating but a million times better than the alternative.

Wait until the bubble shrinks some and you can use it as a magnifying glass.

Funniest thing is the bracelet they put on me saying I can't use nitrous oxide.
Yeah, the repaired eye is like a watery, maybe-1.25 magnifier right now when I look down.
Back to the sofa.

Back to the sofa.

When I came back from surgery all I wanted to do is close the curtains, turn off the lights, lay on the sofa, and crank up the music. Hope you get better soon!

Wishing you all the best topside! I was on the couch for about 6 weeks back in November 2017 after an onset of extreme double vision that did correct itself. Now that was SCARY! My doctor believed it was a virus that caused it.
