Anyone know of any options? $200 a yr or $50 a drive is not reasonable. Does anyone besides me wish such ins. existed?

Take care,

It obviously depends on the type of insurance that you want, basic liability, full coverage, etc.

Some insurance companies let you suspend a policy when the car isn't being driven.
State Farm limits that to 6 months tops of suspension (winter, etc) and after that you either have to reinstate it or cancel it..
I know guys that do that, they only put the insurance on it when they make plans to drive it.

You can also drop it down it just comprehensive (if you have full coverage) that way it's covered by acts of god while in storage.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I can't recall how much I pay..maybe $400 a year...but I can tell you I saved over half going from Hagerty to Grundy for the same insurance. That low it's not worth it to me to do the on-off-on again dance.

And all you have to do is forget to call and put the coverage back on one time, and have an accident when you do, and you are totally screwed.

As far as $200/year being unreasonable for 3-4 drives...How are they being unreasonable with regard to what they charge you? How does the insurance company know that you only drive it 3-4 times?

I switched to Grundy about 5 years ago on ALL my vehicles - including daily drivers. Cut my total bill almost in half. I've had two claims with them too & no problems.

The insurance rep I used to have would let me "bind" coverage for a weekend:

She would remove coverage from my daily driver, insure one of my old cars for a few days, and then switch it back. I'd never get a bill for it.

I looked into Hagerty, and geez, do they ever know how to charge! My regular insurance company is discouraging me from using them even with my appraisals and is pushing to go with a specialty "market" ( mad "market", love it when they use that word mad ).

I'm at a crossroads: keep my cheap rates with regular insurance and hope for the best in the event of a total loss, or pay through the nose to Hagerty for several cars that have secure storage, no chance of fire, and I only drive them a 100 miles in 10 years.

You sure do, especially my Sport Bike that has to have full coverage with 6 months of snow on the ground. up Hagerty quotes $855.00 a year for a car that might see 2 days of use a year. OH, and speaking of hagerty, like bikes, they won't let you take coverage off to only fire and theft in the winter.

Thieves. twocents

They have absolutely ZERO risk insuring these cars knowing full well how the Owners look after them. Talk about a gravy train business model.

Rant off.

From my experience, I had no problem adding vehicles and removing them as my needs changed with a single policy, as long as I had one vehicle insured on the policy. I might do that with say 3 different vehicles for maybe three months ea over the course of the year. It saved me a lot of money. It did require surrendering and replacing tags, but it still was worth it. However the local agent thought they were being abused (?) ( my interpretation) and they declined after a year to renew, so I got the policy renewed with the same company thru another agent. It didn't seem to me like it was a big imposition, when I'm spending thousands of dollars. Oh well.

If it's zero risk, don't insure them. Why waste your money? shruggy No one will ever know, since you'll never get into an accident.

Hemi Rick, I'm not sure what type of vehicle you want to insure( pleasure, recreation, wood hauler/farm) but $200 a year is pennies man. Every time I get into or have gotten into a convo like this I always think about 2 things right away: 1- the time I crashed my charger, months after I had it painted. My insurance company laughed at me when I asked if they totaled it would I get reimbursed for all the monies I had into it ( I kept receipts for everything, down to each fill up.) They said $600 was the maximum (in 2002). I switched to Hagerty and was thrilled with the coverage and price after that. Total was $285 annually, unlimited mileage, $25k agreed value coverage. Like I said, pennies.

The second thing is, I remember a story in MCG several years back. Original owner of an all original unmolested 71 hemi charger and another rare and valuable ride, destroyed in his garage due to a fire. For some reason, he had no insurance on the cars. My jaw hit the floor. Hagerty even insured my project cars for agreed value.

You ought to be just fine going with a Specialty insurer recommended by your regular agent.. Ask her all the coverage questions that concern you and she should be able to answer you clearly.
I went through my regular auto insurer to get 'Specialty Car Coverage', and they came up with a company that gives me Agreed Value, and all the coverage I feel necessary, and it's about $1,100/year for all 5 cars, classics & exotics. Haven't had a claim yet, but I love my regular insurance company and don't think they'd affiliate themselves with a bad Speciality Insurer.
Cheers,
- Art

I had comprehensive only on my 69 Dart that was burned in a garage fire, my wife had $12K agreed value on her 78 Trans Am but hadn't had it appraised in several years and took a loss in the same fire. I paid $16/year for comp, they gave me $34K and the car back, so I can't complain. $200/year sounds pretty cheap to me for a car you can drive anytime you want... work

My complaint is that you can drive a car every weekend or only 3-4 times a yr and the price is the same.,..This is a ripoff, also I'm not talking about 1 car, I have like 15 cars. Since the city/state has gotten serious about insurance enforcement I've quit driving them. I was just wondering if anyone knew something that I didn't. I have a daily driver insured w USAA.

Been down the multiple car road. All were insured. 200 annually is not a rip-off man, sorry. Think about what you have to lose if you injure/maim/kill someone or a family or multiple people.

And, the city/state should be on EVERYONE'S A$$ about insurance. Ever gotten hit by someone without it?

Or if it gets damaged when you're not driving it. I don't care about paying $200-$300 a year for insurance on something I don't use. It's when you pay a grand a year that it becomes upsetting.

The flip side is, how is the Insurance supposed to know if I might be driving my car 3,000,000 miles a year? They are playing the averages, its a shared risk concept.
