One more question, guys. In my 69 bird I installed long ago a Milodon oil system with a pan that sticks out about 1 inch from the skid plate in the K member.More recently I rebuilt the front suspension with refurbished/new parts to be as original as possible. Also installed 215-60 radials and "stock" shocks; now I would like more clearance between the oil pan and the floor, so I started cranking the adjusting bolts for the torsion bars, and here is my question: how far can that be done without messing everything? I have never seen an article that addresses this point, so maybe you have an answer. One thought is buying taller tires, 70 series, that will give me 1 more inch of clearance. Thank you.

iagree
When you raise or lower the ride height with the torsion bars it changes the angle of the spindle which changes the caster, camber and toe in or toe out whiney
Get it aligned with the tires you want to run also up

I won't disagree with the above statements but would add that if you have radials, and you use the car as a casual cruiser, the tires will tolerate about +1 to -1 of adjustment measured at the fender lip before you will see an irregular wear pattern develop.

Thanks for your replies; yes, I know to do an alignment after adjusting the height. My question was this: can I cause some damage by cranking on the adjustment bolts all the way in, or will I just need further alignment? Is there a chance to break something in the suspension? Thank you again for your answers.

I've been told never adjust height with weight on tires and never use impact wrench.

taller tire shouldn't affect the aligment badly. Ride height is set in relation with ball joint and Torsion bar receptacle, so the LCA angle is what sets this, and height with floor given by a bigger tire wouldn´t affect on this.

diff stuff is that a bigger tire could require a diff aligment setup, but this doesn't take to a diff ride height given by the torsion bar bolt

NOW... crank up the T bar to the max? no per se, because on a worn T bar you crank up the bolt to the desired height no matter where the bolt is... but while higher the ride is, more to the limit are you on the geometry affecting shock aborber travel limit and camber/caster adjustment.

so the problem is more by the height itself than the bolt adjustment travel
