So, The distributor out of my 68 GTX 440, appears to have been painted black... The question is, is this factory or not? Everything, including the vacuum advance is painted black

Prestolite dual point were black, but I can't remember a black vacuum pod.

single point were bare aluminum with a clear zinc plated vacuum advance can

Chrysler did have Single Point Cast Iron distributors. IBP but also their own type, probably on a C body though.

If aluminum some one painted it. If Cast Iron type, should be black. But as stated vacuum advance should not be painted.

Not in 1968 that Im aware of.
Single point Prestolite dists were early 60s that Im aware of

I was not assuming it was his original distributor; just pointing out the variations in that time frame. It could have anything in it.
