Was this starter splash shield used on all 70 B bodies? Parts book seems to indicate this was the case.

However, I have heard automatic trans cars only.....not 4 speeds.

John - Thanks.....that is the answer I was leaning towards based on some brief research. Funny that the parts manual does not differentiate 4 speed versus auto trans for this item.

I thought that splash shield was to protect the automatic trans shifter linkage and not the starter?

inherited a 69 roadrunner from my grand pop.

Auto only as stated, I'll post the factory engineering print (at work presently) which designates the shield as automatic equipped vehicles only

Yes. They were also on 68 and 69 B-bodies too. You're missing a piece on that part. There should be a 1/4" thick U - shaped piece of rubber that goes around the U-shaped hole.

DMT has the replacement rubber piece if you need one. The rubber on my Dart was stapled to the metal shield. Must have used a pretty heavy duty stapler. At some point they changed to a plastic shield. My 73 Challenger has the plastic version.

When you purchased an NOS one over the counter, they didn't have the u-shaped rubber piece on them.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. Pretty clear that only auto cars got this shield.

Was that also true for A-bodies with a 4 speed?
