people can't tune so they struggle to find an OOTB carb that's perfect. unlikely to be a happy ending.

The milder the engine, the easier it usually is to find an acceptable OOTB carb for it. Not likely perfect, but acceptable.

Finding an OOTB carb that works good for a mild, street driven Mopar is not a tall order. In fact, there are several that will work okay. At least drive okay with no particularly bad habits. But while driving okay is a good beginning, that carb is often quite a bit too rich. Being too rich is the lesser of two evils as being too lean is much more likely to cause immediate operational and maybe even mechanical problems.

But as the engine gets hotter, the carb (and even EFI) tuning gets trickier. A bumpy idle makes getting the carb's idle and low speed circuits dialed in much tougher and often requires timing and other adjustments be made along with the carb. So, that is an entirely different subject.

Really, in order for someone to ask for carb recommendations, there needs to be a spec sheet filled out with all the pertinent information on the application. It takes a lot of information to make an informed recommendation.

Since carb recommendations are such a frequent request here, why doesn't someone post a spec sheet for that purpose?

Master, again and still

DaveRS23 said: "Actually, if you read the history of the Street Demon, it was designed by former Carter engineers. So, it's basic design similarities with the ThermoQuads is no accident. But, there are profound differences between the ThermoQuad and the Street Demon. The uninitiated may call it an updated version of the Thermoquad. But it really is a total redesign of the old Thermoquad."

I read the Street Demon took the best attributes of the Thermoquad, the Quadrajet and the AFB and implemented them into the Street Demon.

Keep old mopars alive.
