What an awesome car. My preference would be 4:10s and a 4 speed, and with no wing, but wow...amazingly cool car nonetheless.

Earning every penny of that moderator paycheck.

Must have been a brutal 4000 miles for it to have needed a re-paint.

IMHO that's the sexiest Mopar body ever.

Look towards the very back end of the console.
1970 has a slot to put the seat belts in
1971 and later has an ashtray

Not uncommon for an early 71 to have the 70 console. My early built 71RT came with a 70 console.

previously owned by Larry Shepard - modified & raced in the early '70s - then stored for a number of decades - not cared for as a trailer queen

- the above combination usually takes its toll on OE paint

I find it amazing that so many of the 1971 HEMI "PILOT" cars survived the '70s - '80s into the collectable era

1971 HEMI Challenger R/T butterscotch
1971 hemi 'cuda sassy grass
1971 HEMI Road Runner tor red
1971 HEMI GTX rallye red
1971 HEMI Charger R/T hemi orange

anyone seen a '71 HEMI Super Bee "PILOT" car?

I never realized this was a Pilot car. Found this description online from a third party...

Quote
Lot # F146 1971 Plymouth Road Runner Hemi 2-Dr. Hardtop; S/N RM23R1G100012; Tor Red, Black vinyl roof, Black hood/Black, Red vinyl; Estimate $175,000 – $225,000; Visually maintained, largely original, 2- condition; No Reserve; Hammered Sold at $160,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $176,000. – 426/425hp Hemi, automatic, Rally wheels, Polyglas GT tires, Air Grabber hood, rear spoiler, hood pins, 3.55 Sure Grip, bucket seats, floor shift, cassette stereo, power steering, power brakes. – Represented as 4,204 miles and the matching numbers engine. Severe cracking on the front and rear bumpers. Good older repaint otherwise. Good roof vinyl. Scratched up door handles. New exhaust, but otherwise original underneath. Some wear to the interior and two pretty big tears in the driver’s seat, but the tears are along the seams and could be fixed, and the upholstery itself is in good shape. Original other than maintenance and the repaint. – Generously valued in this transaction for its originality, if not its condition, the originality premium is on the order of $40,000, a serious and a bit tenuous commitment to preservation. It’s going to be hard not to correct some of the cosmetic issues, but every step along that road will diminish the appeal of originality.

what year Mecum auction was that?

MECUM Kissimmee 2020 $120K "high bid"

MECUM Kissimmee 2019 $160K HAMMER price + $16K (10%) = $176K SOLD! (where Larry Shepard sold it)

Dont have a picture of the tag

The VIN tag picture car has tan interior and goes with either the GY3 or GA4 car

I saw the Yellow Hemi Charger at that mopar show in Denver at Bandimere. It had no engine and they were asking $12,500. It was largely complete otherwise as I remember and very rust free.

The 1968-70 cars are more popular, but there are those who love their '71s. I've always had the impression, rightly or wrongly, these people were coming of age at the time and this car made an imprint on them.

As someone who was born after the fact, I never had hate for the '71, though I prob have favored earlier ones because I see them much more often. But when a '71 is done right, especially with all the candy, it can't be beat. This is the leading edge of American design and styling for 1971. twocents

One of the first several cars off the line to establish correct assembly, some of the them are anomalies.
