Im helping out a friend sort out a 67 rt dana car stick. the build sheet calls the engine an (83) which is 440 4 bl hp. the block was a 66 with an C on the pad not an hp. I know this car from 67 I don't believe this block was ever change. its original to the car. does the C stand for commando engine? would Chrysler put a 66 block in a 67 car out of the factory. The other confusing engine code on the build sheet calls it a 449. could that be an over bored 440?? the door tag calls for an L engine as well. any one familiar with the decoding.
Thanks

Are the 915 heads hand stamp HP?
You need to keep in mind that Mopar had been using the low po 350, 355, non HP 440 motors in C bodies cars in 1966, not in the Dodge or Plymouth B body cars until mid year 1967 shruggy
I've seen several original 1967 Dodge RT/T 440 motors, I don't remember if any of those had HP stamp on the upper pad or not back then.
Maybe the HP stamping started in 1968 along with the motor numbers hand stamping #s matching the body VIN #s confused

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

My 66 Sport Fury convertible came from the factory with the 365hp 440, and of course no HP on the block. Had 516 heads same as the 426S engines.

YES, they started making 1967 cars in summer of 1966. So yes many many have 1966 dated C 440 HP blocks. They all have HPstamped blocks from the factory. Engine code L in the vin means HP on the block. C body and B body.

Dart9ss you need to stick around and learn what the numbers on a build sheet mean. The 449 is the last 3 digits of the part number, not cubic inches.

C is 1967, it will say that in the top left corner your broadcast sheet. And the sequence number starts with C for 1967

And the part number is not always the casting number.

Can you post the broadcast sheet or fender tag so we can see dates and things? I could decode the whole car for you. No fee, no waiting, like GTs. LOL
