I had a thread a while back about a 1971 GTX that I was unable to buy. Well, I ended up buying the 1965 Satellite that was sitting next to it and I brought it home this weekend. The plan is to do the mechanicals and not go nuts on a restoration. I'm the second owner and the original owner was a woman. She put 130K miles on this car and then she bought a Roadrunner. She eventually sold the Roadrunner and when she was 70 years old, she wanted another Roadrunner so they bought one for her. In my book she was one bad-ass granny and her name was Louise.

I watch Youtube nearly every night and I thought that it would be fun to set up a channel to show the progress. I don't plan on this as an income by any means, it's just an easier way for me to post on Moparts what I'm doing. I know that's not how people generally show progress on here and if it doesn't fly with the administrators, then I understand and I won't post

Thanks.

A big block, 4-spd, '65 Satellite? If you ever want to get rid of that, let me know. One of the nicest Mopars ever built.

I decided to take a look under the seat covers that were over the back seat and was pleasantly surprised.

My oldest came to help pull the motor, his idea, and didn't run into any major surprises. We had a good day and the rain held off while we need it to. The major thrashing is over for a while until the motor comes back from the machine shop. In the mean time I'll take press on with everything else.

WHOAH I missed that this was a 4spd, now I'm super stoked for you.

(I've always preferred a stick shift. I just slammed an 833 in the Duster 2 days ago and my also buddy completed putting a muncie in his 70 Chevelle this weekend)

Your floors look great too (save for under the back seat area.)

EDIT I'm going back to watch more of the video.
Also I've had good luck with rust removal, My Cuda (front end) and Duster (exhaust manifolds) (even the Dart trunk) project threads cover some methods

Thanks, I hit the rusty spots with SEM Rust Mort and then painted it with Rustoleum rusty metal primer.

Part 4 is up and running. The worst is probably done but the axle and springs are next.
The springs in the car are like my back, stiff as hell.

I've been doing some thrashing and have gotten along pretty well. Not too much rusted on stuff but you always find something I'm finding most of the pieces that I need, but these "older" cars don't quite have the market for OE parts that say a 1970 car would have. Still having fun but the heat can be a drag.

Louise's Toxic Satellite 5

Interestingly, after I wire wheeled the 3rd member case, I saw where they had stamped the gear ratio on the bottom vs having a tag bolted under one of the nuts.

Well I’ve been busy all summer. The block was very clean and has probably been out for a re-ring and gaskets. Lots of nit-noid stuff being done and some big stuff too. The interior will be going back in soon after I run an ozone generator in there for a while.

I’ve put up some more clips on my House of Mopar YouTube channel.

The latest...Louise's Toxic Satellite 8

I tried to duplicate the trunk spatter paint and then hit the gutters with a CC1 spray bomb from NAPA.

I’m still busy on the old girl. The carpet and back seat is in. All of the electrical is sorted, I added front, rear and engine harnesses. The spot light is spotting. Console came out nice when I got an automatic donor for the metal pieces and arm rest. Some cool Stewart Warner gauges. Replaced the rusted out area under the battery tray painted the inner fenders and radiator support, I didn't do the firewall as it was pretty decent. AM/FM radio with a single speaker sounds great. KSHE in the morning and KMOX when the Cardinals start playing in the afternoon.

I'm up to number 9 now...

I thought that I'd try to match the "patina" of the radiator support and passenger inner fender but said screw it. That's spray bomb CC1 light blue from NAPA. The stuff is actually fairly tough for not having hardener in it.

Going with magnum 500s instead of hubcaps and 14” tires. Couldn’t get past the small 245.60/14s all the way around.
245.60/15 front and 275.6015 for the rear on 8" wide wheels.

Looking at your ball & trunnion driveshaft coupling face I am wondering if there were two different ones...one for auto & one for manual? The below photo is of my current piece that was on the trans that Keith Long built for my 64 Sport Fury 426 console auto. You can clearly see the matching indentation for your ball & trunnion face.

This is the ball & trunnion stub shaft that was on my car originally...flat face. Which bolts up flush exactly as your type. Maybe someone who has experience with these will chime in.

Yeah, you've got me. I would think that this is the original driveshaft, but you never know.

I’ve been working a some small stuff while waiting for the motor at the machine shop. The factory trunk drop off covers were more or less still there, at least enough to make patterns. I talked the folks at REM into selling me some vinyl to cover them.

This car has had a respray, and I mean they sprayed over a lot. So I pulled the Plymouth emblems on the hood and the Commando V8 badges on the fenders and cleaned them up and painted them. The driver side Commando badge had been broken and they used a screw to secure it to the fender. That’s how it went back on.

This is the same companion flange that is on my 4 speed transmission, the one with the recesses. The picture didn't come through with the reply. You go me to thinking and I went out to check.

Very cool - thanks for sharing.. going to binge-watch your videos this evening... :thumb:

I think a lot of odd things happened with the 65's, those in-between years.. a bunch of one-year trim and details.

I restored our worn-out-but-intact '65 Satellite from 2006 to 2013.
I'm not sure of our's build date, but it was ordered in November '64 and has the "new" slipyoke driveshaft, not a ball-n-trunion.
Your grille has a Belvedere center emblem, maybe it was replaced, or the assembly line just grabbed the wrong thing.
All the original documents came with our car, from order sheet to window sticker to bill of sale and build sheet - I found no Owner's manual or Certicard.
Ours was originally owned by a lady named Bertha.

Looking forward to watching your videos..
Cheers, and Happy New Year!

Art,

This car had some Dukes of Hazzard driving done to it. All of the panels line up straight but the radiator was pushed up and I'm pretty sure the rear tail panel was replaced. I'm waiting on the motor as we speak and hopefully there's going to be a dyno session soon.

I understand that all 4 speed cars had the ball and trunnion for 1965. I have no paperwork with it but most of the components are dated December 1964.

Thanks

Well I’m still at it. Finally got the 383 Dynoed couple of weeks ago.

She made 478hp and 460tq. That’s with the 4% additive for Joe’s Stuska dyno with 2 generation old software.

Here’s the link to the video.

I also got the motor sprayed with Bill Hirsch turquoise. That’s some good stuff.

It looks Blue in this picture but it's really the correct turquoise.

Painting the 383

Thanks
