I picked up a 1970 340 long block assembly. The block was cast in June 70. However, there is no VIN stamping or other assembly info on the block. Was this likely a service replacement bare block at one time? I assume if it would have been built as a long block there would be assembly info stamped on it. Thanks in advance for any info. Joe

I would say yes it is. I had a 340 that looks just like that. No VIN or assembly numbers below the drivers side head stamped. Mine was casted 7/3/70

Must have been a good year for casting extra blocks. Just picked up a 340 block cast 1-5-70. Same thing with nothing stamped in either location.

Thanks for the replies. Seems it is either an over the counter block or possibly a warranty block. I am going to look for evidence of a warranty tag being riveted on the side or front of block area.

Same thing here as well. I have 1-17-71 cast date with no stampings.
