I bet they can find that second as they continue to work on the car. I think it would be a fun project to work on.

I'm guessing they have to leave real soft to keep from blowing the tires off or breaking things if it happens to hook real good.

He didn't seem to have any problems in the bleach box. My guess is the soft launch to go easy on parts as well. Also, maybe they don't want the tires to grow like they do on fuelers.

Anyone have any idea on the total weight of that car during that run?

Makes me wonder what's in the trailer ... the biggest diesel generator you've ever seen and a spare set of slicks ?!?!? These things will likely end up the same as jet dragsters - exhibition only. How to you put rules in place for these things - it would require a completely different level of expertise. And how much time will they need for between round charging ??

Very impressive! The new Tesla model 3 performance can run in the mid 10's off the showroom floor on regular street tires. I would think if you put that drivetrain into a drag chassis it should go into the 8's .

I am not impressed.

The beauty of the electric systems is that you can tune the torque output at any point of the acceleration curve within the limits of the torque/speed curve of the motor/drive combination. Active wheel sensors could determine slip at 1000 cycles per second and torque can be modulated almost instantly to maximize efficiency and acceleration. The technology has existed for decades but this is a new application space.

So are you saying they could make it faster but they are holding it back? Yet they are trying to set a record.
The whole thing looks pretty lame to me. My buddy has a rail that when it leaves will lift 1 tire off the ground. And its just a bracket car.

Not to mention how much it probably weighs, and how long they would need to recharge, between rounds.

Listening to the talk in the Vid, it seems the sanctioning body is limiting them to 10% increases in power.

What would TV Tommy do with this today? whistling

I could see two 200 HP motors up front and two 400 HP motors in the rear for a "AWD". These motors can go from 0 RPM to 45,000 RPM in seconds.

1600 HP gas does not equal 1600 HP electric due to torque spread and RPM.... You'd spend more just for the controllers than the batteries.

But at this level you would need two trailers. Like said above 1 trailer with a huge (JP-8) Turbine generator and the second for servicing, spares and the dragster.

That is interesting because most electric stuff seems to run great ET with low MPH. They may not be leaning on it for ET, they might just be giving it the beans late in the run make sure they get to 200. Might be something weird like going for Max ET doesn't allow it to run 200MPH due to gearing or something else.

I would like to have seen Garlit's make this record but congrats to these guys. Its fast, its interesting, but its not for me.

Well to hit 200 mph they only have to do it through the traps. Being electric with virtually instant response he could have taken ten minutes to cruise down the track then hit the "button" ten feet out from the traps and still hit the number.

I have driven a few electric cars and while different and interesting felling I don't feel like any had any significant TQ that a gas engine did not have. An ICE engine is kept in it's peak TQ or HP RPM under full throttle by converter or clutch slip so it is also under full TQ the whole length of the track so maybe an electric motor makes peak TQ at almost zero but an ICE is still kept under full TQ or better yet peak HP the entire time.
