Hello,
Just picked up this cool W-100 Prospector. 318 Auto truck with 84K miles. Has sat for a long, long time. I have it running good now and will start on the brakes soon. I do want to put on some other wheels and tires. What is the largest wheels and tires for this truck without rub? I am thinking that a set of Cragar Nomad I's in either white or chrome for that old school look or some M/T aluminum 8 holes and some 31x10.50s. Thoughts? The wheels are 15x8 with 3 3/4 backspacing. I KNOW 33s wont fit from previous experience. What about 32 x 11.50 on the same rim? Thanks

I know this is kind of apples to oranges comparison, but I went up to a 285/75/16 on my old 77 W200. No clearance issues at all. They spec'd out at almost 33" tall and I can't remember the width offhand. That truck looks like it sits up plenty high enough to accommadate a similar size. 31x10.5s no issues I'd think, 32x11.5s shouldn't be too far out as a possibilty. LOVE the truck! beer

Nothing to see here. Carry on.

I think the optional tire size from 75 and up was 31x10.5x15 on rthe half tons and ramchargers. Factor rim was 15x8. I ran 33's on ramcharger with factory wheels but had add a leafs and a body lift.

I had 31 10.50's on a First Gen and would not recommend them to my worst enemy. There was no steering with these wide boots when I hit a patch of snow, slush or rain.

I went to a 265 75 15 and it was a night and day difference. Height was slightly taller and the width was like 3 inches less.

There is a 33 x 9.50 available that would probably be alright.

If you want to get the look right, a 1.5" lift is needed because these First Gens look ridiculous without one and big tires. I used a 1.5" lift.

For wheels I used the American Racing ones:

I am running 31 x 10.5 on my 78 with Nomad wheels painted to match the center color.

I would imagine you could run 32s on 15x8s with no problem. I ran 33s on 10s on my '78 with no lift. Friend with a body shop trimmed an inch or so at the bottom of the front edge where it barely rubbed. '79 had 33s on 10s but I had the front springs re-arched a little to level it. Only pics I have of them but you can see the '78 is slightly nose-down in stock form.
