Is it fast? Yes it is very fast. I just have trouble thinking that it is cool

Sounds like a blender and smells like burning plastic. What fun! The batteries probably cost more than the average house.

I like the technology and would tinker with it on scooters, atv's and such but when it comes to any kind of racing it doesn't do anything for me. Maybe they need to play a top fueler sound track over the PA system when this thing makes a run !!!

I am surprised how soft it leaves , all the electric car supporters say that an electric motors are different from internal combustion in the way that they make peak torque at 0 rpm, and that they accelerate faster than internal combustion.

impressive technology, but I can't see myself going to watch electric cars race.

Can you imagine an all electric nationals? The announcer would have a field day with catch phrases. Shocking pass! Electrifying class! The crowd was shocked! John Force in an electric funny car and getting out after a pass with a clean fire suit. No thanks, wake me when it's over. puke

At least the tracks nearby residents won`t complain about noise.

The torque is flat and constant from what I understand, but cars like Teslas are programmed to leave without spinning, not sure if they did something similar with the dragster. But it is interesting because you do always hear about the MASSIVE TORK (like the diesel guys). If you look at the 1/4 mile times turned in by most of the electric cars the trap speed is usually in line with a car .5-1 seconds slower than the ET they run.

I'm with the guys that posted so far, I just have no interest in it. Que the guys to tell us that we're naysayers, laggards, won't get with the times, should face the facts, embrace the future, how great and fast electric cars are, etc. I'll save them time - yes we're laggards, we are in a RACE forum for cars that are 55 years old, when internal combustion engines hit the 200 MPH barrier. (not meant to beat up the original poster, it is interesting to know so thanks for posting)

Interesting. I wonder if Garlits is still pursuing the electric thing? drive

I'm guessing they have to leave real soft to keep from blowing the tires off or breaking things if it happens to hook real good.

Notice he waited until after midnight to make the record attempt? Waiting for good air. laugh

It's not the same without the noise. It's never go watch the electric car races.

For me, an internal combustion engine is largely the soul of an automobile.
Without that, it's just a transportation device, more like an appliance.

For the same reason, I'm awed by steam locomotives, but see little sensory or emotional appeal in diesel-electrics...
Ditto aircraft, for that matter...
I "get" the tech appeal, but Soul is related to the sensory and emotional pleasure, as I see it.

The beauty of the electric systems is that you can tune the torque output at any point of the acceleration curve within the limits of the torque/speed curve of the motor/drive combination. Active wheel sensors could determine slip at 1000 cycles per second and torque can be modulated almost instantly to maximize efficiency and acceleration. The technology has existed for decades but this is a new application space.

It was almost one second slow in the ET for that mile an hour

So ya may as well run em via remote control.
