1980 - my credit union required me to get a letter of endorsement on a car I wanted to get a loan on. And here it is:

Priceless letter. Where is the car? In the big Mopar graveyard in the sky. Mine and about 100 other cars were in a HUUUUGE old building in Hamtramick that housed among other companies, Michigan Car Storage. The building burned to the ground in Aug. 1984. Google Hamtramick's big fire in 1984. I still miss the old beast - it was a loaded car too complete with even power windows. I had bought the car from the original owner. Yes, it was properly insured.

I will take all of those you can find me, for $3500.
Sooo, that leaves, what, 94 others?
Equipped like that it may have originally been a magazine test car or company exec car. Saw a lot of those types go thru the Chrysler leasing dealer auctions, back in the days when I was young and dumb and broke.
One day at Laconia there were something on the order of 25 Superbirds, basically new cars, anywhere from 500 to 2500 miles, run thru, no one was bidding, auctioneer was just flapping his gums trying to get anybody interested at $2500, with no takers.
Zone office was supposed to put at least 500 miles on a car before it could be sold ...
It takes gasoline to interest me.

somebody recently posted a video of the car - I can't find it now, I remembered the fire story but didn't recall who owned it Yep, that was my car - that screenshot was in John Pappas' driveway. And no, the car was not a magazine car. It was ordered by the guy I bought it from - it was his 3rd & final Hemi car. The first one he had was a gold 1968 Coronet R/T Hemi with automatic & PW, PS, PDB, etc (loaded), then he next ordered a silver 1969 Coronet Super Bee Hemi, with the same options. ALL cars ordered & he loaded them up with options. When I bought it, it had 84,000 miles on it & ran beautifully. It ran great in the time I owned it - just like the family station wagon. The only work he ever had done to the engine was he pulled the heads & sent them over to Corky's in Detroit for a massage. Car never used a drop of oil & was dependable always - well - except for the time the ballast resistor went on the fritz. Took 2 weeks for me to finally diagnose that $3.00 part!
