Ive never been laid off , so im ignorant to rules.

In march I laid off 2 men
1 started receiving benefits pretty quicky
The other just received last week .

I received my ppp loan so i called them back
On.

Theyre both coming back , but one guy was bummed ,
Because for 5 weeks , hes only received one check .

With the 7 day waiting period rule in place .

Why wont he get compensated for the time hes been off ??

That's messed up.

He really should get it.

If NY is anything like Michigan (messed up similarly at all).....this happened to me once, I got 2 checks and then was cut off for no reason, and then about 3 years later they sent me several months worth all in one shot. And they didn't say why they sent it or what it was for, so it was just mystery money from the state. It took me awhile to figure it out.

Maybe that will happen to him too.

Eventually he will likely get back checks.... I know PA is still getting caught up.
It took a few weeks, but my brother in law finally got an extra check for the week they initially missed.
He actually got the $600 from the Feds, before the 1st PA UC check showed up.

For now he's happily making about $100 more total PA+FED then he makes working.
But he's bored & ready to go back... apparently fishing every day for a month gets old. laugh2 whistling

My understanding is if you draw unemployment that disqualifys you for PPP money. Not sure on the full extent of the rules.

It's nice they are coming back. I have friends/relatives making more on unemployment and have no desire to return, even if called.

As for PPP - congrats for being able to actual GET the payment. Remember, though, that the IRS is considering this as taxable (up to 37%) income to your business, so even though it was touted as a 'forgivable loan' if you met certain requirements, you may end up paying for the 'loan.'

It will likely be taxable, and then your cpa will deduct the wages paid by it as a business expense, so its a wash if you pay wages.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

It will take a long time for the various government agencies to ever figure this stuff out. I can imagine that they are so overwhelmed right now it is probably like an old Charlie Chaplin movie with cakes falling off the assembly line. I bet the people who work in those offices just hate to hear the alarm go off on Monday knowing they have to go back to work where people scream at them all day after being on hold for 3 hours.

I think the way the rules are is that when you get the loan
You have to hire back .
I only laid off 50% of my staff .
I called everyone back after I saw The funds in my account .

The helper kid who only received 1 week of checks thus far
didnt have a steady 40 hour job prior to when I hired him.
It may have been why the delay .
He actually got someone at nys unenjoyment to answer
Phone yesterday.
They told him the monies he is receiving is actually pandemic pay. (?)
I wish i was a fly on wall listening to conversation.

He IS reluctant to come back . He wants to recoup
and take advantage of his backpay.
The unemployment hotline lady indIcated that
he would lose his benefits If he goes back .
She indicated that his payments would double for
upcoming weeks til caught up .

They wont send him a backpay check.

If he does report back to work , he would NOT get
compensated backwards or forward.

He feels ripped off . So would I , I suppose .
So he wants to stay back for a couple weeks .
I emailed him a copy of A resignation letter to send
signed back to me ..

He wont make a 1/2 of his unemployment check IF
he returns back to work , cant say I blame him .
BUT , im not letting his claim go against my insurance.

Im disappointed he doesnt waive the benefit to
start getting more work experience.
Im disappointed that the hotline lady Essentially discouraged
him from going back .

Im advertising for help wanted tomorrow.

This is messed up.

I would read what you circled as "Actually HAVING Covid-19"...
But being you're in NY... "they" probably read it as "if ANYONE in the State has the Covid".

They knew this would happen when they failed to cap payments at 100% of previous pay.
And they just didn't care... flame
